Buddy Study System
Day 1 -Choose, Write, and Build
Mix, Fix, Mix
Day 2- Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check
Day 3-Buddy Check
Day 4- Make Connections
Day 5- Buddy Test
Buddy study provides opportunities for children to apply principles for studying a specific list of words in active ways. The purpose is to develop word solving actions so that children can problem solve by working on words in isolation or while reading and writing continuously text. Rapid, automatic word solving is a basic component of fluency. It is important for comprehension because it frees children to focus their attention on the meaning and language of the text.
**There is no grade in spelling. The Buddy System is designed for continuous learning over all curriculum that spelling is applied and learned naturally. The children form this point forward will take their spelling test in their word work notebook in order to keep track of the words they have mastered and the words that they want to learn.
Weekly reading homework:
Students are to read for 20 minutes each night. They will write the Title (s) and pages read. Parents need to sign off each night! Please have your students keep their reading recording sheet in their RED GO Folder. That way I can see if they are doing the reading each night.
Writer's Workshop
Starting with a Watermelon size idea and breaking it down to a seed size idea and write about it. We will work very hard this week at getting our seed size ideas down on paper. We will write, read, edit and repeat on the same topic all week. We want to learn and do what writer's do.
Social Studies
POPCORN!!!!!!
The student's have been working very hard in class these past few weeks. They earned a popcorn party last Friday. I had a lot of fun! You all have some popcorn lovers on your hands. I think the children enjoyed earning cotton balls in our very large Good Behavior Jar as they did eating the popcorn.
***Don't forget to send in a healthy snack they get very hungry towards the end of the day.
