Ott's Outlook
February 2024
One of the things I love the most about this time of year in the school district is that we are in peak competition season for Fine Arts, CTE, and UIL Academics/Athletics. There is a certain feeling and energy that exists when you are preparing to compete and you can’t help but feel it when you walk onto our campuses. I love watching our students and teachers interact with each other, and I love watching our families swell with pride as they watch their children succeed.
Our students excel in local competitions but also at the regional level and beyond. Last year we had over 160 Fine Arts students in middle school and high school qualified for post-district and/or state competitions; and 13 of our Athletic programs qualified for post-district competitions. More than 368 industry certifications were earned by students through CTE and you will not find another district in our region that rivals that number. Our students are representing Temple ISD across the state in extraordinary ways and we could not be more proud of them!
We compete for the best resources and opportunities to support our staff and position our students for success in the classroom, on the stage, on the field in the workforce and beyond. Part of competing for resources includes creativity, minimizing inefficiencies and marshaling resources. This does not just apply to public schools, but also includes city governments, municipalities, public health, colleges and local businesses etc. These entities, and many more, work together to form great communities; and in so doing, rely on local elected officials to assist in appropriating funds for these public services. This is why it is important to engage in the election process.
As I shared with you before, the elections upcoming in 2024 will be critical for many public services, to include public education. Please take the time to get informed about candidates for state office and plan to vote in the March 5th primary elections. Early voting for the primaries is from February 20 - March 1. Please check the Bell County website for early voting times here https://www.bellcountytx.com/departments/elections/early_voting_information.php.
Please remember that your vote is your voice and every vote matters when it comes to building great communities.
Sincerely,
Bobby Ott
