Bulldog Brief

We are the Wylie Way!

We made it the First Week!

Congratulations on a very successful first week of school. I have talked to a large number of parents over the weekend and end of the week and EVERY parent has told me what a PHENOMENAL week their child(ren) have had the first week of school. One of my personal favorites was when I asked a few first graders about their favorite part of their week. Their answers were "building math stamina," "reading my books," "my teacher making it fun," and "writing my book." Wow!! What GREAT responses! Thanks for making relationships a huge priority and making learning fun and engaging! I am still convinced this is going to be the best year in the history of 4ever!!

Welcome Michelle Subia to our Smith family!

Please help me welcome our newest Smith staff family member - Michelle Subia. Michelle is coming to us from Birmingham Elementary and will be supporting our special education needs. Julie and Esther welcome the help as their minutes were impossible to serve with just 2 people. Michelle is no stranger to Smith - she was a supportive and encouraging parent for many years. Her youngest is now an 8th grader at McMillan.

Wylie Way Day of R&R

Just a few reminders for Wednesday:

*All day is devoted to R&R so enjoy the lessons already provided! :)

*Those of you that are new, be sure and get your Wylie Way bag. Deidra has them in the front office.

*Remind your students to wear their Hawaiian clothes

*CAMP teachers will be teaching the new song Mrs. Zucha created for KULEANA!

Please let me know if you have ANY questions or need any help!

a techno tip for the week! #URLearning

We are already seeing such GREAT things from your ipads!!

Have a writing activity first thing in the morning? Why not pick three kids to type it in the notes app, screen shot it and tweet it out with our #smithstrong hashtag? Every kid doesn't have to do everything, :)

Reminders: When talking about using technology, let's be proactive. Kids are GOING to make mistakes...how can we head those off? Be thinking of some proactive classroom management tips that we can discuss in an upcoming PLC meeting.

Jamie will be sending out the blog schedule and specific details on how to access our Smith Blog this week!

Textbook Updates

Thank you for being patient while we wait for all SS resources to arrive. If you received Social Studies Weekly, you have access to the online support!! Just go into Forethought under Scope and Sequence. Go to SS, click on your grade level, then General Instructional resources. At the bottom of the page is a link for SS Weekly Online access. Hopefully this will help you get started!

Math and Science books should be here toward the end of September. We will get those to you as soon as they arrive.

If you need any other textbooks, please send Jamie an email.

House Update

This Friday we will be having House Inductions! We will meet in the cafeteria as a group. Each house will be in a specific quadrant of the cafeteria, with Kindergarten in the center, followed by 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and then 4th on the outside. "New to Smith" students will line up on the ramp to "spin."

We would like to document each student's house assignment. Please use the link below to access this Google document and fill in your class's information. Once you click on the link, you will need to login to Google using your @apps.wylieisd.net account info. Using the tabs at the bottom of the document, find your grade, then your name. Should be easy peasy!....need a little help? Just ask! It would be ideal to have this information by Wednesday, if possible! Thank you!
