The Richardson Review
November 13th, 2022
Dear Richardson Students & Families,
I had many conversations with teachers this week around how much they enjoyed spending time with families during conferences. Conferences are such a wonderful way to build community and strengthen the connection between school and home. If you were unable to attend your conference, please feel free to reach out to your teacher(s) so you can find a time to connect. Unfortunately, a few of our teachers were sick this week so they are working to reschedule their conferences. (Please see below for some important information from our nurse around the cold and flu season).
If you were unable to stop by the Book Fair during conferences, you can still order books through our Online Book Fair until November 16th. Richardson's Online Book Fair
Richardson students learned about Veterans Day this week. Here is a PDF version of our Richardson's Veterans Day Slideshow. Thank you to all our veterans for your service and to all our Richardson students who spent time creating cards and artwork to share with and honor our veterans. We will continue to find ways throughout the year for students to spread kindness across our school and our community.
“Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.” — Scott Adams
Today is World Kindness Day!!!
"On World Kindness Day, groups and individual people are encouraged to go out of their way to be kind to others, whether that be at home, work, school, or just out in public. Celebrate by pledging to do at least one intentional act of kindness on that day to benefit someone else. It can be as straightforward or as involved as you like. No matter what you decide to do, your act of kindness will unite you with others dedicated to changing the world one kind act at a time.
This day is also meant to celebrate and encourage the good deeds that others already do. On World Kindness day, be sure to let others around you know how much you appreciate their kindness and generosity. Sometimes saying, “thank you,” is one of the kindest things you can do and probably isn’t heard as often as you’d think!" (source: Inspire Kindness Website)
In honor of World Kindness Day, on Wednesday November, 16th we invite students, staff and families to "Wear Words of Kindness" - you can wear clothing with kind or positive messages. Students can always share their favorite positive message with their class that day too (so no need to go out and purchase anything new).
As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions.
Together,
Mrs. Houde (pronounced "hood")

Important message from the health office
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Colds/Flu/Influenza/COVID are all going around our school. If your child has any symptoms and does not feel good PLEASE keep them home. We are trying hard to protect our students and staff from getting sick. Our teachers are happy to get homework together for your child if you call and request that. If you send them to school sick more than likely I will have to call you to pick up your child.
Things to remember:
Any fever they must stay home- must be fever free for 24 hours without meds to return to school
If they have thrown up within the last 24 hours they must stay home
Cough, stuffy, runny nose and general body aches keep them home. IF they have a cough that is getting better they should wear a mask at school.
Vomiting/ Diarrhea must stay home
Any COVID symptoms-please ask for a test if you need one- I have a lot of them
Encourage good hand washing both at home and at school. This can help stop the spread of germs.
Please feel free to call me with any questions-651.748.6915 . My hours are 9am-4pm and I return calls as quickly as I am able. Email kharstad@isd622.org.
If you have any questions you may go to this link- It is a great resource for you and your family.
Bottom line
The situation right now isn’t great for kids or older adults. It’s not great for hospitals. It’s not great for caregivers. You can help people around you. Do the same things you do with COVID-19—stay home while sick and mask in public. Wash hands and toys—this will help with RSV and other illnesses.
Lots of learning and Fun at Richardson!!!
