Tiger Family Newsletter Oct 2023
All the important deets to stay in the know!
A Note From Mrs. Gold
May It Be of Benefit
Hello Tiger Families,
On behalf of our PTO, I want to thank everyone who participated in our annual Cookie Dough and Believe fundraiser. Every single sale makes a difference. In total, our school sold over $24,000 in product which translates to just over $10,000 for our school! I'm delighted to announce our top 10 sellers who get to slime the principal (no last names for privacy):
Kinzlee, Avery, Wyatt, Graeson, Gaven, Tate, Macee, Alice, Bentley, and Makenzie. This should be messy and FUN! We will hold a special assembly and families of the slimers are invited to attend along with our whole student body.
You may ask why we fundraise or why we would spend school time sliming the principal. Well, I'm glad you asked. For one thing, at SM we feel it's important to do one major fundraiser and not have multiple events. This way, you know to put your effort into this ONE thing and that you won't be asked to keep doing fundraisers (other than the jog-a-thon in the spring). Second, as you know, school funding can be tricky and the government puts restrictions on what we can spend our dollars on. However, parent organizations have more flexibility to spend the dollars they raise. Our PTO puts a lot of thought into purchasing important improvements like the little yellow bus on the kindergarten playground, our water bottle filling station, a commercial ice machine for school functions, reading incentive prizes for our students and much more. Finally, we don't use class time to work on or promote sales, and our celebration assembly will be short and sweet and we will do it at the end of the day to minimize impact on learning.
If you'd like to be a part of the PTO and help decide what projects and improvements or events for our school, please consider coming to a monthly meeting. They meet the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. in our library.
Thank you again for your support!
With gratitude,
Mrs. Gold

October: Habit 3- Put First Things First
Throughout the month of October, our school will be focusing on Habit 3: Put First Things First. This habit of mind helps us be successful in all that we do by spending time on the things that are most important. This is a challenging habit for us all to master, especially young students. We must learn to say no to things that we shouldn't do and to set priorities that align with our personal goals. It teaches us to be organized and disciplined. A couple of things you can do as a family to reinforce Habit 3 are:
- Support your child by co-creating an evening schedule for dinner, homework, bathtime, bedtime, etc.
- Put the schedule in writing and post it where it's easy to see.
- Any time you are putting 1st things 1st, call it out for your child to see. For example, if you make lunches the night before, tell your child that you do this because it's a priority and getting it done the night before helps you have a better morning the following day.
Happy Habit-making!
Community Connect Corner
A Note From Julie David, our Community Connect Coordinator
I myself am a child of the YMCA afterschool and summer programs, so it was great to visit Redding's YMCA this week on Eureka Way. They have grown and remodeled!
They have a new Teen Center for Youth 12 and up for all kids and all school areas. There is individual and family memberships with Financial Asst. and they will not turn away any students ...it is a safe place to come hang out do homework, play games, computer and basketball etc....all the things ....it is from School Dismissal until 6pm. They also FEED the kids!!!
There are so many programs for all generations and for example Child Watch for moms or dads needing a Mental Health break. They watch the kids right there on YMCA campus while the parents have some time alone or with other parents. It is 8-12pm or 3-7pm for children 6wks old and up. If $ is a hardship they can try the 7 day free trial ...Bottom line: THEY LOVE KIDS AND WANT TO HAVE HEALTHY ADULTS AND there are so many opportunities at the Y to get healthy as a family!
