Character WOW Sincerity vs. Hypocrisy

“Eagerness to do what is right with transparent motives.” ~ 1 Peter 1:22

The Bible contains numerous warnings against hypocrisy. “Hypocrisy” is claiming to believe one thing, then acting in another way. The Greek term for “hypocrisy” is close to the term for “actor.” So a “hypocrite” is someone who is good at acting or wearing a mask in front of others. Jesus warned religious leaders with these words, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.” (Matthew 23:23)

The opposite of hypocrisy is sincerity of heart. In Joshua 24:14 God’s people are encouraged to “serve [God] in sincerity and in faithfulness.” In the New Testament, Zacchaeus stands out as a person who sought after Jesus with a sincere heart. Not only did he climb up a tree to see Jesus, but after meeting with Jesus, he promised to give back four times the amount of money he had stolen.

From Zacchaeus, we learn that sincerity of heart will cause us . . .

  1. to seek after Jesus without hesitation
  2. to repent of wrongdoing wholeheartedly
  3. to make things right with others

May God help us to live with sincerity and flee hypocrisy.

My Declaration: “ I will seek after God with my whole heart and treat others with transparent motives seeking to do what is right.”

Bible story: Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10)

Quote: “It is an old and true maxim that a drop of honey catches more flies than a gallon of gall. So with men, if you would win a man to your cause, first convince him that you are his sincere friend. ~ Abraham Lincoln

Spirit Friday October 5th

This Friday will be the first Friday of the month. Students are allowed to wear jeans with Spirit Wear.

Colonial Outfits Needed

Mrs. Arri’s American Republic class will be putting on a Colonial Ball. She is in need of some colonial style outfits to borrow. If you have something that her class can have or borrow, email her to let her know. Please send any outfits (full or partial) in the next week. Also, please include a note if you'd like your items back after the ball. Here is a link to Mrs. Arri's email.

Students and faculty are encouraged to dress up for our daily themes.

Wear your favorite hoodie and sweats! The sweats can have nothing written on them.

Wednesday - Crazy Sock Day

Wear the craziest socks you have. Don't have any crazy socks? Then just mismatch them.

Friday - Twin Day

Find a friend or two to dress identically with.

* Students who wish not to participate can wear Spirit Wear and jeans; otherwise please dress according to the dress code. As always we expect each of our students to dress with modesty in mind.

Student Success Center Takes Off

Two weeks ago Heritage Academy began it's Student Success Center. The Student Success Center is a place where students can get tutoring for any number of subjects. The center is led by Mrs. Pam Tamerius. You can make an appointment for your student on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 1 pm to 3 pm. Since starting three weeks ago Mrs. Tamerius has helped multiple elementary and secondary students in Algebra, History, Science, Organization, Reading, and English. If you have questions or want to make an appointment email Mrs. Tamerius. The cost is $20 for a one-hour session and $30 for a two-hour session.

Kindergarten/Elementary Fun

The elementary and kindergarten students spend a half hour together each day during the morning break. Whether they are outside in the yard or in the gym, tag is their favorite pastime. It is wonderful seeing these different age groups interact- they are tremendously kind and encouraging to one another.

Dress Code Reminder

The family manual states that boys must wear, "collared shirts with sleeves" and girls must wear, "nice shirts with sleeves or with a cardigan." Plain colored t-shirts are not considered "nice shirts" by themselves. Also if a student wears a fleece, hoodie, or jacket, to class, the shirt underneath it must still meet dress code specifications. The fleece or hoodie can have a small logo, but no logos or words across the entire front of the jacket, fleece, or hoodie. If a student is not meeting dress code specifications we will have them call their parents to request a dress code appropriate shirt be brought to school.

Old School Values, New School Schedule

Heritage Academy is a University-Model® School, facilitating students' access to excellent education, increased time with family, and opportunities for growth toward maturity while providing a cost-effective, college-preparatory education. In an age where family life is becoming increasingly fragmented, the unique structure of the model also serves to “turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers ” (Malachi 4:6).
