Mason Moose Minutes December 17
Teamwork it is! One Mason, One Family, One Team!
Message from the Principal
Happy Friday once again as another fun and productive week at Mason has come to an end! As we prepare for the winter and holiday break, I take the time to reflect on how fast these first four months of this school year have flown by! We truly have learned so much about one another, and with one another! I am filled with great appreciation for each member of our Mason family, students, parents, staff, and community members! We all care about the well being of each other, and choose to be a part of this special family with sincere care and compassion. In a time where we are all handling so much that is taking place around the world, I take pride in this community we have, and the choices we make to focus on all of the positive individuals, positive experiences, and positive events in our lives that bring smiles to our faces and hearts!
This week students took part in a schoolwide read aloud titled, Be You, by Peter Reynolds. The book encourages students to be proud of themselves, work toward being an amazing person, encouraging them to be kind, connected, understanding, reflective, patient and more! We value every opportunity to guide and model to students how we choose to be the best version of ourselves, and choose to make each day a great day!
As we prepare for next week before the holidays approach us, each teacher has or will be communicating with his/her families specifics pertaining to the holiday parties taking place! We truly appreciate everyone who has communicated with us to donate items to the classroom for these special celebrations! For parents who have asked about sending in gifts for their student's teachers, know you are more than welcome to do so, and if you need to drop them off at the main office that is not a problem! Thank you in advance on behalf of all of the Mason team for your generosity and thoughtfulness! Please be reminded that next week is a short week. Students have school on Monday through Wednesday, December 20-22 and there is no school from December 23-December 31, 2021. School will resume on Monday, January, 3, 2022! We continue to move forward as One Mason, One Family, One Team! If you need anything, please know you can contact me via email at Hassana@gpschools.org or by phone at (313) 432-4404. As always....Teamwork it is! Together we learn, we lead, and we lift!

Morning Arrival & Dismissal Reminders
* Students should not be playing at the playground in the morning or on the blacktop. Please kindly remind your student.
* Please DO NOT PARK, nor double park on Charlevoix Rd as this is a drop off area during morning arrival and dismissal times. We want to be proactive about this so that parents are not ticketed for parking there, and students are safe to be dropped off.
* Additionally, during morning arrival, let us try to park in the parking spots which tend to be available if you intend to walk your child to the blacktop, and please DO NOT PARK in the drop off circle so that it indeed is a drop off circle for all students to be dropped off safely.
Winter Playground Procedures/Rules
Snow is here!!! Please remember our students do go outside twice a day for recess. It is important that they are dressed appropriately, hat, gloves, coat, snow pants and boots. Kindly know that in order for students to play on the playground/woodchips/field they need to HAVE snow pants and boots on. If they do not have boots or snow pants on, they will have to stay on the blacktop. Please find these Winter Playground Procedures/Rules to review with your student at home.
If you are in need of a winter jacket and need some support, please contact the main office as we do have some winter jackets to share with students in need.
In need of food over the break?
Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP)
Dear GPPSS Families,
The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is funded by the State of Michigan to provide free preschool for eligible four-year-old children. Head Start is federally funded to serve eligible children ages three through five years old. The Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency, in collaboration with GPPSS, developed a community interest survey to elicit information regarding housing a Head Start and/or GSRP program for the 2022-23 school year at Ferry Elementary.
Eligibility for GSRP and Head Start is prioritized based on income and other factors. A family of 4 can earn up to $26,200 for Head Start or $65,500 for GSRP to be eligible for the respective programs.
We are asking that income eligible families, with children who will be three through five years old next school year, complete this survey provided by Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency. If there is interest in Head Start and GSRP, then Wayne Metro will start the recruitment and enrollment process for the program in the spring/summer.
The survey will be open through January 14, 2022.
If you have any questions please contact Keith Howell at howellk@gpschools.org
