Husky Happenings Family Edition
Week of April 4
Husky Families-
This past week, I had the chance to do my civic duty as a juror. It was an adventure, but I sure did miss the students, the staff and my car line peeps. I'm so glad to be back. We have week finished up any remaining Interim tests and are starting looking over the data. As we dive into our data, we will be reaching out to parents of the students who fell short of the 70% marker about summer tutoring. Students who are assigned summer tutoring will be able to forgo the tutoring if they meet the passing standard for the STAAR in May. Our teachers have been asked to look at their students' grades weekly and assign mandatory tutoring to students who are not being academically successful. We are hoping this will help our students stay up with their grades and continued to grow academically. On Monday, March 28th, we will be rolled out a NO Phones Policy. This policy requires all Huskies to put their personal phones in their backpacks from 8:55 am to 4:10 pm. Students will need to use their school ipad and or provided device for instruction. At the end of the 3 weeks, we will be reevaluating their grades and phone/technology offenses and consider letting the student have their phones back for the last 15 minutes of lunch. I know many of you text your student throughout the day when emergencies and or change of plans need to occur. Please know you are more than welcome to call the office and we can relay this information to your student. See the link below for more information. As always, please reach out if you have any questions or need help.

Three Weeks Progress Reports
The 3- Week grading period ends this Friday. Progress Reports will go out next week. Please take a moment to check your student's grade in SKYWARD at the link above.
Spring STAAR Interim
Over the last two weeks, we conducted the STAAR Interim for grades 6-8 Math and Reading as well as grade 8 Social Studies and Science. Please remember, the STAAR Interim is the predictive measure the school will use to determine if students will be set up for HB 4545 tutoring hours in the summer. We will make a plan for them to attend tutoring on our campus for 30 hours for each STAAR subject test in which they do not meet the passing rate. (8th graders could potentially have 120 hours, 7th & 6th grade could have 60 hours). If students pass the STAAR in May (we will get scores in June), they will NOT have to attend the tutoring hours.
STAAR testing days
These are the STAAR testing days set by the state. We will have a closed campus on these days, which means there will be no visitors allowed. Please do not make any student appointments on these days.
Wednesday, May 4 - Algebra EOC
Thursday, May 5 - 8th grade Science
Friday, May 6 - 8th grade Social Studies
Tuesday, May 10 - 6th, 7th, & 8th grade Math

HFMS Campus TAPR Report, Federal Report Card and School Report Card Now Available
The Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR) pull together a wide range of information on the performance of students in each school and district in Texas every year. Performance is shown disaggregated by student groups, including ethnicity and low income status. The reports also provide extensive information on school and district staff, programs, and student demographics.
The TAPRs were previously known as the Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) Reports.
The most current report is now available on our website. If you would like a paper copy, we have them in the front office.

Greetings from the LISD Virtual Learning Academy!
We will be at Huffines MS on April 11th at 8:00 a.m. to answer questions about VLA summer registration and support you through the process. We will be meeting in the library.
VLA provides opportunities not only for summer acceleration for middle school students but to take virtual courses as part of a student’s normal high school schedule. Join us to learn more about these exciting opportunities!
We look forward to serving your student and partnering with you to support your student’s success in online learning.
VLA Staff
We want your child to be successful in school, and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academic classes is important, students also need skills for learning challenges, making good decisions, handling strong emotions, and getting along with others.
This week in Advisory, students will learn about Making Amends 96th grade), Taking Responsibility for your actions (7th), and UnHealthy Relationships. Please see the attached for the lessons. Click here for lessons.
**If your child is going to be in 7th or 8th grade next year and is interested in playing tennis for a PE credit, please watch the following video.
Please encourage your child to finish out the last 9 weeks STRONG!! You can help by checking weekly on your child's grades, missing assignments, and encouraging them to attend HUSKY HELP.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Nutt & Mr. Parra
