2021-22 School Opening Plans

As conditions around COVID-19 continue to fluctuate, PCR-3 will continue to seek guidance from health authorities regarding our mitigating measures. The Board of Education will be meeting for a special session on August 12 to review the most recent guidance. Please be looking for communication on the District's 2021-22 school opening plans on August 13, which will also be posted on the Parents section of the website here. (* Note: Current update regarding facecoverings can be found below.)

Update to Face Coverings for Barry and Pathfinder

Throughout the pandemic, the District has been seeking guidance from health authorities including the CDC, DHSS, Platte County Health Department, Clay County Health Department, and Kansas City Health Department. All of Platte County School District's schools are in Platte County; and Barry School and Pathfinder Elementary are also within Kansas City limits. Kansas City Health Department's guidance to our District during the 2020-21 school year was to follow Platte County Health Department's recommendations for all of our schools.

Our current guidance from the Kansas City Health Department is that our schools in Kansas City need to follow the City's Emergency Orders. Under Kansas City's current order, face coverings will be required indoors at Barry School and Pathfinder Elementary when six feet of separation is not feasible. To read the Mayor's Order, click here.

With staff returning to our building and back-to-school events occuring in the coming weeks, we wanted to make sure you are informed of the current measures in place.

Free Meals for All Students

The District has been approved to serve free meals to ALL students, as well as community members age 18 and under through the end of this school year (2021-22), regardless of meal status. Children can receive up to one breakfast and one lunch each day. Additional meals and a la carte items (extra milk, extra entrees, chips, etc.) are not included in the waiver. If you think you may qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch, please fill out the form linked here, so that you are covered when this free program ends. This form is not required to receive the free meals under this waiver, but helps us assist families in various other ways.

--------------------------------------------------------

Text Notifications

The District uses text messaging and automated phone calls to notify parents of upcoming events and days off, school closings due to weather, and during emergency situations. Newly enrolled families will automatically receive an opt-in message from 67587. If you missed it, simply text “Yes” to 67587 to receive text messages.

Equity and Inclusion Strategic Plan; Parent Advisory

The District has recently finalized its Equity and Inclusion Strategic Plan. This plan serves as a guidance document for the District, and outlines strategies designed to achieve the following goals:

  • Goal 1 (Culture of Belonging): Develop and refine processes that ensure a culture of belonging as measured by survey results and participation data
  • Goal 2 (Equity of Access): Develop and refine processes that ensure equitability and inclusion in all schools and school-based activities as measured by survey results, process fidelity, participation data, and performance data

This plan was developed with the Superintendent's Cabinet, District leadership, the District's Parent Advisory and the Staff Equity and Inclusion Committee, and presented to the Board of Education for review and feedback. At this time, we are accepting additional interest to serve on our Parent Advisory. If interested, please complete the following form. After an initial informational and on-boarding session in September, the advisory will meet quarterly.

Pathfinder Resource Checklist

Hello Pirate Families! At the beginning and middle of each school year, we ask parents and guardians to fill out our Resource Checklist on paper. This year we are asking you to complete the Resource Checklist electronically using this form. This brief questionnaire is your School Social Worker's first and primary way to help you access support services. It also lets us know if you are interested in giving back to your school community. Please do not hesitate to contact your School Social Worker if you have any questions.
