Welcome to Hybrid Monday 9/28/20
Henderson County High School
Daily Schedule
What: We are going to move to an A/B block schedule. Below is our maroon and white schedule. On our hybrid schedule, Group 1 students will attend school on Mondays and Tuesdays and do NTI work on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Group 2 students will attend school on Thursdays and Fridays and do NTI work on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. All students will be given 5 days of instruction. Students will have access to their teachers when they are not in school the last 30 minutes of each block according to the schedule below.
Why: HCHS will operate on a modified block schedule. You will have four classes on Maroon days and three classes and PLT on White days. This modified schedule significantly reduces the amount of time you spend in common areas since there are fewer class changes each day. This will also allow more time for sanitation of classrooms and learning environments. Additionally, it reduces the number of assignments you will have each day. In the event that NTI becomes necessary, a modified block schedule will allow for a seamless transition. We hope to do whatever we can to reduce stress and alleviate anxieties that you may be experiencing.
Arrival Procedures
- You will enter the building wearing a mask.
- You will have a temperature check.
- If you arrive at school PRIOR to 7:30 am and choose to eat breakfast, you will report to the cafeteria. If you arrive before 7:30 am and choose not to eat breakfast, you will report to the main gym. If you are in the gym or cafeteria, you will be dismissed to first block class at 7:30 am.
- If you arrive AFTER 7:30 am, you will report directly to your first block class. If you need to eat breakfast, you will go to the cafeteria first then report to your first block class.
- If you DRIVE to school, you will park at the stadium lot and enter the building at the South entrance (CTE entrance) by the greenhouse (door C6). Your temperature will be taken by an infrared temperature sensing tablet, which will also recognize if you have appropriate facial personal protective equipment. If your temperature exceeds 100.4 or you do not have an appropriate face mask, the HCHS Healthy at Work Officer will contact your parent or guardian.
- If you are a CAR RIDER to school, you will enter the parking lot on the west side (entrance just past Arlington Drive), and loop through the back parking lot in order to be dropped off at the covered awning on the west side of the building (door D2). Please stay in your vehicle until you have reached one of the four drop zones. At that time your temperature will be taken and staff will approve your appropriate facial personal protective equipment. If you get the all clear you will get out of your car at that spot. If your temperature exceeds 100.4 or you do not have an appropriate face mask, the HCHS Staff will give you directions at that time.
- If you ride the BUS to school, you will enter through the blue unit doors (door A1).
- If you WALK to school, you will enter through the blue unit doors (door A1).
Dismissal Procedures
At the end of the school day, students will have a staggered dismissal from school. This alleviates the number of students who are in the hallway and exiting the building at one time.
I must wear a mask AT ALL TIMES except when eating or drinking.
Everyone must wear a mask. The mask MUST cover your nose and your mouth. This is required according to the Healthy-at-School guidance from the state of Kentucky and is part of the Henderson County Schools dress code. Please refer to pages 54-55 in the Henderson County Schools Student Code of Conduct for additional Dress Code regulations. Exceptions are very limited and include times when students can be outdoors, 6 feet away from other students; in the lunchroom while students are eating; and/or times when students may need to take a drink of water.
I may choose my seat for lunch, but I will be required to sit in that seat for the remainder of the school year.
What: Students may choose their seat for both their Maroon day and White day lunch schedules. Tables can accommodate up to 4 students. Student seats are separated by plexiglass dividers.
Why: Contact tracing will be an important part of containing the spread of illness. The number of students at each table has been reduced and plexiglass dividers have been added to minimize the risk of the spread of illness at lunchtime when students are not able to wear face masks.
Water fountains are not available, but there are water filling stations where I can fill up my own bottle. I will be responsible for bringing a water bottle to school each day.
What: All water fountains are out of order. Water filling stations have been placed throughout the building. Students may fill their own water bottles at these filling stations.
Why: Water fountains have been shown to help spread illness.
All student desks/chairs in my classroom must face in the same direction and be as far apart as space allows. I will have to sit in the same seat every day.
What: All students must face the same direction in your classroom. Do not move desks in your classroom without explicit instruction to do so from your classroom teacher.
Why: Our classrooms need to have as much space as possible in order to follow the Healthy-at-School guidance.
I will be required to disinfect my classroom desk and any equipment, etc. I use in each of my classrooms.
What: You will clean your own space in your classroom upon arrival. Cleaning materials will be provided to you.
Why: This is a requirement under the Healthy-at-Schools guidance.
In addition to the regular curriculum, I will learn tools and procedures to minimize my risk of getting or spreading Covid-19, and special emphasis will be placed on my social/emotional wellbeing.
What: You will learn and be expected to follow best practices when it comes to things like hand washing and proper placement of face masks. Additionally, staff will receive training on how to support you as you deal with the stress and anxiety of the pandemic.
Why: Following proper procedures helps minimize the risk of the spread of Covid-19, thereby helping to promote the health and safety of you, your teachers, and your families. We also know that as a teenager, you respond to stress and anxiety in a variety of ways. We want to provide you with tools and strategies to help alleviate these experiences.
No large assemblies or field trips will be allowed.
Why: These policies are in place to help minimize the risk of the spread of Covid-19.
