Who should attend?
Anyone serving as a principal or an assistant principal benefits from study, reflection, and networking. The cohort model of the P and AP Academies provides an opportunity for all three. The group is particularly supportive for people new to their position (which is defined as being in your first five years of your current assignment). Leaders who have served longer have most likely reached the understanding that learning is essential to growth, so their participation is equally welcomed. In short, the cohort is for all Ps and APs, respectively!
Who is the instructor?
Dr. Mark Wilson leads the Principal and Assistant Principal Academies for the sixth year. In his career as an educator, Mark has been a teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal. Currently, he serves as a leadership coach, consultant, conference keynote and author. He has led over 120 cohorts of leaders and aspiring leaders and works with leaders, aspiring leaders, and teachers across the nation. He was the National Principal of the Year in 2009 while at Morgan County High School in Madison, GA. Contact Mark at mark.wilson.ga@gmail.com or @MarkWilsonGA .
What is the format?
The essential piece that makes these groups work is the coming together of individuals to form a cohort. Our sessions will always be driven by reflection, conversation, and the needs of the participants. You learn from each other in ways that would be difficult to replicate by yourself.
The guiding framework for our 2017-2018 study will be the eight performance standards (LAPS) from the Georgia Leadership Keys Effectiveness System. We will take a deeper dive into each standard and focus on practical application in leading an effective school.
