I hope that you all have had a wonderful, restful summer! I have certainly enjoyed a little time to recharge and prepare for what promises to be an amazing year at Dyer Elementary! With a strong staff, a great student body, and the support that we have from the community--we are set for success!
As we approach the upcoming school year, I wanted to provide you with some important information to help you and your students have a smooth transition. In this newsletter you will find an overview of our updated Open House processes, information about how you can become involved in our school and how you can stay informed of school and community events throughout the school year.
We will be holding our annual "Meet the Teacher"/Open House on Friday, July 30th from 9:30-11AM. We have been working hard to streamline the Open House process in order to allow you to head straight to your child's classroom with their school supplies. To prepare for Open House, please be sure to complete the two step Online Orientation process outlined below by Friday 7/23.
In step one of the Online Orientation process you will log into your MyPaymentsPlus account and complete the required Open House Forms (aka. back to school paperwork). Required forms will pop up upon login. You will be able to click to view and then sign off. New this year, the Transportation Parent Authorization Form will also be collected digitally. This is the most important form for you to complete as it will tell us how your child will be getting to and from school each day. Please be sure to complete a separate transportation form for each of your students. You will also see a list of voluntary contribution areas. Your support of these programs will help equip Dyer students for the new year. All contributions are greatly appreciated. If you already have a MyPaymentsPlus account, simply log on by using your username and password. If you do not have an account, please visit www.MyPaymentsPlus.com and select "Register for a Free Account" using your child's student ID number.
In the second step of the Online Orientation process, you will log into your Parent Portal Account/ParentVUE App to view your child's homeroom teacher. Because this information is available online, we will not post it at the front of the school as we have in the past. If you are unable to find the information, we will have it posted in several locations during Open House. When visiting the Parent Portal/ParentVUE App, please be sure to review all information. You have the ability to make changes so that we have the most accurate information regarding emergency contacts, your own phone numbers, clinic information, etc. Another great thing about the Parent Portal/ParentVUE is that you can see your child's bus route numbers-including pick up/drop off times and bus stop locations. This information will also be posted in the Atrium during Open House. If you do not currently have a GCPS Parent Portal account, please download and complete this form, then bring it to the front office with your photo ID. We also have forms available for you to complete on-site. (Note: homeroom teachers will not be visible to students/parents until 7/28.)
When you arrive at Dyer for Open House, please park in the side parking lot and enter through the main (front) entrance. (Please note that CDC guidance continues to recommend that unvaccinated individuals wear face coverings/masks.) You can then head directly to your child's homeroom to meet their teacher and drop off school supplies (click here for supply list). Before heading out, be sure to stop by the PTO table located in the second atrium (beside the main stairwell). Our PTO's Board of Directors will be there to answer questions and preview this year's spirit wear!
The 2021-2022 school year is a new beginning for all of us! I hope that you will reconnect with us as we navigate a new year--a fresh start--and a laser focus on teaching and learning for ALL students!

We use a variety of tools to communicate such as the Parent Portal/ParentVUE, our school website, email, weekly school newsletters (The Bear Essentials), Facebook and the PBIS Rewards Parent app! Please be sure we have your current email address on file; this can be updated via the Parent Portal by clicking on the Update Student Information tab.
