GHS StuCo collects clothing donations for the State School

The GHS Student Government organized a clothing drive for the Gainesville State School to help meet the needs of their student population. They initiated a class contest to drive the collection and with all the items collected, GHS was able to donate more than 25 large boxes of clothes. On Tuesday, administrators and Board members from the State School came to GHS to meet the students and collect the donations. We are PROUD of the service and leadership of our GHS Student Government!

We want to hear from you!

Attention GISD parents:

A parent survey has been released and will be open through December 21st at 4pm. The survey is an opportunity for you to provide input that will be used to drive future planning efforts in GISD. As we continue the work of strengthening the academic experience of our students and partnerships with our community, it is critical that ALL stakeholders be heard. In doing so, we will create an environment that promotes unity, support and opportunities for our leaders of tomorrow. Thanks in advance for your input and willingness to be part of our future planning efforts.

United Sound Performs

The United Sound band students performed for their families and friends for the first time earlier this week. These students are mentored throughout the year by current GHS band students, meeting weekly learning their instruments. The program was brought to GHS last year and was proven to be successful for both the mentees and the mentoring students. The program is unique in that student mentors take the lead and teach the special needs students. We look forward to seeing all of the United Sound students perform at the Spring Concert in April!

Art contest winners for the 3rd annual GISD Christmas card contest were recognized at the Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, December 17, 2018. One student at each campus was determined the winner for that campus and all five campus winners’ designs were used to create the 2018 GISD Christmas card.

GHS Senior Zoey Smith won first place overall and her art was displayed on the cover of the card. GJH 7th grade student Makailia Daniels (not pictured) placed second and her art is on the inside cover.
Additional campus winners’ art was displayed on the back of the card. Natalie Grooms (5th grade), Isaias Sanchez (4th grade), and Miranda White (1st grade).

GISD is proud to be able to share the artistic talent of our students with our community.

Congratulations Redcoats on a great season!

Our GISD band program as a whole has seen growth and significant success this fall. At the board meeting on Monday, the band was recognized for their tremendous hard work, dedication, and success. The band made school history by advancing to the Area finals by outscoring 16 other bands. The group ranked 10th ovreall in Area.

This year, the Redcoat Band had to overcome a lack of a marching percussion section, a smaller guard than the other groups, and a lack of experience this season. Out of the 50 students in the program, 30 of them were in their first year of high school marching band.

The future is bright for the Redcoat Marching Band!

Watch the video to hear first-hand from Mr. Rutherford, Director of Bands, Drum Major Mason Lorne, and Band Presidnet Deserae Pouncil.
