Imogene Katherine Giesinger

September 9, 1932 - August 22, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we share our beautiful namesake, Mrs. Imogene Giesinger, passed away last week at the age of 90.

Mrs. Giesinger was raised on a farm in eastern Grimes County. She began her education at Smyth Institute, a one teacher school, then went on to graduate from Montgomery High School in 1948 at the age of 15. After high school graduation, she continued her studies in San Antonio returned to Montgomery Counted and married Edgar Giesinger. While owning and operating City Grocery, a local Montgomery grocery store and helping her husband start and manage a timber business, she continued her studies receiving a BS Degree in Education from Sam Houston State University in 1960 then went on to get a Masters Degree in Education and completed post graduate work in Educational Management at both Sam Houston State University and St. Thomas University.

After 16 years as a classroom teacher in both Montgomery and Conroe ISD, Mrs. Giesinger moved into administration as the curriculum director of the newly opened O. A. Reaves Intermediate School. She then served as the principal of Anderson Elementary School for two years before opening BB Rice Elementary School where she served as a principal for 9 years.

At the age of 56 she retired (for the first time ) to spend more time with her grandchildren, husband and ranch. Not ready to slow down, she soon returned to CISD as Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education.

During her tenure as an educator she received many awards and accolades, the highest of which was having Imogene Giesinger Elementary named in her honor. Each year that she was able, she joined our school for her annual September birthday celebration with second grade (Her favorite grade to teach!), Mrs. Giesinger Day.

Next time you visit our campus, please visit the trophy case (outside of the library). It features highlights of her life and was donated by Mrs. Gieisinger to us last year. You will see the one-room schoolhouse like she started school in, the hardhat she was gifted when Giesinger was opening, and several other certificates and pictures that are shared. The quilt hanging outside Mrs. Barber's office is one that she made for our school.

Mrs. Giesinger had many interests outside of education including helping to establish Sam Houston Trail Riders Association and quilting. In retirement she was active in ranching where she supervised her beloved High Hope Ranch. In addition she served as a part time supervisor of the student teacher program at Texas A&M University.

She was a wonderful grandmother who never missed a first day of kindergarten, cooked cowboy stew over an open fire and taught her grandchildren the value of education and to love the ranch.

A celebration of life will be held this week.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Giesinger Elementary with a memo entry for Library Donation in memory of Mrs. Giesinger.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cashnerconroe.com for the Giesinger family.

CISD Heat Safety at Football Games

With continued record heat in our area, we want to be especially mindful of those members of our community who may be more susceptible to heat-related illness due to medical conditions or age. Home varsity football games in Conroe ISD are streamed for free on our Athletics YouTube Channels, and we encourage anyone who has not built up a tolerance to these temperatures to enjoy the games from the comfort of their own home in the air conditioning.

For anyone who feels they must watch the game in person, we encourage you to bring an empty water bottle and utilize our free water stations so you can stay hydrated. Please also dress in light colored, breathable clothing and drink plenty of fluids before attending. We will have cooling stations and medical professionals on site. There will be many opportunities this season to watch a game under the Friday night lights when temperatures are cooler.

Listen to Dr. Null talk about heat safety at football games.
