La Mesa Weekly Update

October 29, 2018

Hello La Mesa Families,

Por favor, desplácese hacia abajo para seleccionar español.

The end of October is near! By now we hope you were able to access your child's report card on Infinite Campus through the Parent Portal for Quarter 1. Quarter 2 has now begun as a fresh start for student grades. We encourage you to check the Parent Portal often as a way to keep up to date on your child's progress.

Thank you for your ongoing support of La Mesa Junior High.

Sincerely,

Michele Krantz

Principal

Before and After School Supervision

Please be aware that student supervision does not begin until 8:00 am. We are seeing more and more students being dropped off as early as 7:00 am. While there may be adults on campus, students being dropped off this early are not supervised. We understand that our later start time may be in conflict with parent work schedules, however, safety must be our number one priority.

Also, as a reminder, after-school supervision ends at 4:00 pm. Students staying for activities ending after 4:00 pm must have their ride waiting for them.

Please note that the City devotes two routes to La Mesa to take students to and from school. If your home is along these routes, this may be a viable option for your child. Please see our website for City transportation information.

Halloween Costume Guidelines

Halloween can be a fun time for students to express their creativity and have fun. While we want to allow students the opportunity to celebrate, we still need maintain a positive and appropriate learning environment. We need your help in ensuring that the costumes worn by our students are school appropriate. With this goal in mind, the following guidelines will assist students in making their costume choices:

  1. Dress code applies – this includes attire that is modest and respectful
  2. Students must be identifiable – no masks or concealing make up
  3. No weapons or imitation weapons
  4. Gang attire will not be considered an appropriate costume choice
  5. Students should be sensitive to other people when making their costume choices.

We will be monitoring costumes throughout the day. We understand that there is subjectivity to what some might consider appropriate. Our goal is to ensure learning is still the primary focus of the day. Administration will make the final determination. Students that are deemed inappropriately costumed will be changed out and not permitted to wear the costume at school. Students are encouraged to share their costume plan with an administrator beforehand if they feel it could be questionable.

We appreciate your support in helping us to allow students to celebrate a fun day and still get a quality education.
