Ensuring appropriate accommodations/modifications (including 504s) throughout the system
Providing Specially Designed Instruction
Proposed Schedule
Asychronouse
The times here are not meant to suggest that teachers (or students) should mimic four 60 minute classes per day. Rather the guidelines are intended to help add structure to a students day and have a dedicated time to check in to each class. Remember, the majority of all learning tasks in Remote Learning should be asynchronous in nature. Lessons still need to be accessible to students later in the day if needed.
Posting on Canvas Announcements
Lessons posted by 9:00 AM the morning of each class period through Canvas announcements. By doing so, families and students can prioritize their day and have consistent access to all of their assignments. ("One Stop Shopping")
Here is a tutorial from Christina Schultz for posting on Canvas announcements:
Curriculum Delivery
There are three modes of curriculum options for delivery to consider for each class you teach. (We will strive for consistency in this decision among course alike teachers at a school.)
*APEX is an online learning system that goes through content online in a system approved for credit.
Some of our teachers have used this in summer school and the AOC. More information and a link to explore APEX is coming from the district soon.

Phishing Emails
Phishing Increase and Change to BSD Email Access
As we enter the holiday season, a recent report stated phishing activity has increased more than 400% from the first two weeks of November. For staff personally, attackers know online shopping increases and they design mock Amazon emails, text message giveaways, and other message designed to get our usernames, passwords, and even credit card information.
Cyber criminals also know that many school districts largely shut down over winter break so they are increasing their attacks against us as well. If you suspect any email of being a phish, please forward it to phishing@beaverton.k12.or.us so we can test. If it is a phish, we can automatically remove the message from all other mailboxes. In addition to protecting your account, forwarding it to IT could protect many others.
Many of our attacks come from machines located outside the United States. To make it more difficult for attackers to access any compromised account, we have implemented Geo-fencing on all Beaverton School District email accounts. This means that you will only be able to log into your email account from a location within the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii).
Many organizations have implemented Geo-fencing as one way to protect compromised accounts. It slows down the attackers ability to access the account, which gives us more time to identify the account and alert the staff member. If you will be traveling outside the United States and want to access email, simply put in an IT Help Desk ticket stating your destination and travel dates. We can create an exemption for you.
More information is available on our intranet page.
