Ohlone Family Connection
February 5, 2022
Lunar New Year & Black History Month
Our Ohlone Black History PTA Committee has curated a wealth of resources for us to explore, connect with, and learn from. Each week in February, you will receive a link to a slideshow with a different weekly focus to share with your family. This week's focus is STEM and Inventors. We are looking forward to celebrating Black history this month and every month in the years to come.
This morning, I attended the Kepler's webinar with Taye Diggs and Shane W. Evans who were discussing their new book, Why?. The book is powerful, simple, and speaks volumes. On February 15, one of our very own parents, Joanna Ho, will read her book with Kepler's, Eyes that Speak to the Stars. So exciting to have a powerful writer in our community! I know there are others out there, too :).
Thank you to our Farm helpers today! Have a wonderful rest of your weekend.

Black History Month - Week 1: STEM & Inventors
This year, our hope is to continue to build greater awareness throughout the Ohlone Community as we honor and celebrate Black leadership, creativity, resilience & accomplishments, while deepening our engagement with the historic and ongoing injustices that remain. The Goals of an Ohlone Education call us to foster self-awareness, democratic values, acceptance & compassion, citizenship & community, lifelong learning, and more. It is in this spirit that we hope to provide resources for families to explore each week in February.
African-Americans have been a huge force in understanding and shaping the world around us! The list of Black scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and inventors is enormous. It’s exciting and inspiring to think of how many different ways our life is impacted every day by the ingenuity, perseverance, and creativity of the people we will highlight this week.
