Parent Newsletter
October 2020
Note from the Principal:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
2020 continues to surprise us! Who would have thought a hurricane would interfere with our school year already! The good news is our school building did not sustain any damage or flooding. I hope your families all faired well during Hurricane Sally.
Please note on the calendar that school is in session on October 12th and October 21st. Originally these days were scheduled off for students. Due to the delayed start of school, school is now in session for both of these days.
As you know the state of Florida has gone into Phase 3 of opening in regards to COVID-19. We have not received any changes from the CDC, the DOH, or FLDOE (have to love all of those acronyms). We will continue to follow our Re-opening Plan and policies. If there should be any changes, we will get the latest information out to you when we receive it.
October 16th kicks off our Annual Cookie Dough Schoolwide Fundraiser. This fundraiser provides us with additional funds to purchase items to enhance our school. This year the funds will go to buy ITV equipment to allow us to improve the production our 1104 Morning Show.
This year our school is going through accreditation. We had been in this process during the 2018-2019 school year. When Hurricane Michael hit, we were unable to complete the process. We will have our first visit (virtually) with the accreditation team on October 15th. Throughout the next several months, we will be collecting evidence to show we are ready to be accredited. Part of the accreditation process is to get input from all of our stakeholders. I am asking for you to take a moment to fill out the following survey by October 10th to give us feedback about Palm Bay Elementary. Here is the link to the survey: https://eprovesurveys.advanc-ed.org/surveys/#/action/142578/58852 Thank you in advance for completing it for us.
We are excited to announce that we will be having a Book Parade on October 30, 2020 to celebrate literacy in a fun and engaging way! For this event, your student will choose a book that they enjoy and will dress up to show their peers one of the main characters. We would also love for your student to bring the book as they will be discussing their books in their classroom. The student will wear their costume to school and participate in a parade throughout the campus. While students will be wearing their regular mask, please do not send a mask that will cover their eyes. We are excited to see all of these books come to life!
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me through email or by phone if you should have a question or concerns.
Sincerely,
Patty Phillips
