GIS Covid Update
27 October 2021 - Information regarding today's announcement
Kia ora whānau,
I thought it might be useful to send out an email following the Government’s announcement today that plans are underway to support the return to onsite learning for schools in Auckland. The earliest a return to school will happen is 15 November, and I will provide more information about how this might work closer to the time.
At the moment, a group of Principals from Auckland are working with the Ministry of Education to develop a plan of what on-site learning under Alert Level 3 will look like. However, you can be reassured that any decisions about bringing more children and staff on-site will be done in accordance with strict public health guidance. Certainly, it will look different to what it has looked like before under Alert Level 2 or 1. For example, this might mean attending school two days a week and learning from home for the other three.
The senior leadership team cannot make any decisions about how we might manage a return to school until we are provided with more detail and guidance from the Ministry of Education. As soon as we know what is happening, you can be sure I will let you know as soon as possible.
The restrictions of Alert Level 3 and 4 have been a real challenge to the wellbeing of our tamariki and whānau and we are really hopeful of being able to see our students back at school before the end of the year.
In the meantime, vaccination and testing remains the best thing we can do to keep whānau and our community as safe as possible. COVID-19 is finding those who are unvaccinated in this outbreak. A reminder that we have the vaccination van up here at school tomorrow (Thursday) from 9.00a.m. to 3.00p.m. and I would encourage everyone who has yet to receive their vaccination to come on up and see the medical professionals up here at school for advice or for their vaccination.
