Dear Parents,

Next week is Book Week! We will participate in fun workshops and events all week. We have many literacy, math, and science activities planned in our classroom that revolve around our Book Week theme.

There are 2 special dates to remember this week:

Thursday, February 25th- Wear your pajamas to school! Please have your child wear their tennis shoes with their pajamas that day.

Friday, February 26th- Book Character Day! Your child should come to school dressed as his/her favorite book character.

Curriculum

Math:

  • Coins
  • Counts to Measure Time
  • Solid Shapes (3-D shapes inc. cone, cube, cylinder, rectangular prism)
  • Surveys and Graphs

Writing Workshop:

  • Writers think about things that have happened to them. Then they think how they could turn it into a fiction story.
  • Writers think about the characters they want to use.
  • Writers choose settings they want to use in their story and make sure that the setting matches their characters.
  • Writers plan their stories first.

Solid Shape Museum

We are starting a Solid Shape Museum in the hall as a part of our math lessons. I would like for you to send in objects with your child for us to display. If it is to be returned to you following this unit, please mark it with your name. We are looking for spheres, cubes, cylinders, cones, rectangular prisms, triangular prisms, hexagonal prisms, triangular pyramids, and square pyramids.
