Newsletter Week 2 Term 3
St Joseph's School Waipukurau 4th August 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou
A very warm welcome to week 2. We had a lovely first week back. It was really nice to see all the students again and chat with them while out on duty.
Thank you to all the parents that made time to attend the parent interviews last week. Please remember you can make a time to speak with your child's class teacher at any time throughout the school year. Speaking with the teachers and parents after the interviews seemed very positive.
On the 8th of August, it is the feast day of Mary Mackillop who is the founder of our school.
“Wishing you blessings as we celebrate Mary MacKillop’s feast day”
‘Let us be joyful and thank God’. Mary MacKillop 1874
I am looking forward to our school mass being held at St Patrick's Church on Saturday the 14th of August. The parish community is excited about the school coming and celebrating mass with them and they are looking forward to the student's beautiful singing.
As you may have noticed we are now doing our school newsletter digitally, however, if you would still like a hard copy please inform the office.
The newsletter will now automatically upload to our school website, go out in the School App and link to our school Facebook page, and will be emailed out each week.

School Mass
Our school & community mass is on Saturday, August the 14th at St Patrick's Church in Waipawa at 5.30 pm - please note the change of venue and time.
All students need to attend in full school uniform and arrive at 5.10 pm. Students will be sitting up the front of the church.
Please bring some spare change for the offertory collection (this is when the basket is passed around).
School Cross-Country
The students will be bused to the event and parents can meet the student there and take them home from the event. Please let their classroom teacher know before you leave.
At the end of the cross-country, we will have a colour fun game between school houses.
School Fun Run 2021
Once again we will be taking part in the online fundraising school fun run. This year we are raising funds for the sacred space and for ongoing costs to maintain it. Last year we received a grant from the Palmerston North Dioceses and were able to make a start but to get it finished we need to make a push and have it completed by the end of the year if not sooner. A letter went home on Friday the last day of term 2 along with the student's fundraising booklet. We will again use the school's cross country on the 27th of August as the run.
How it works: 60% of the funds raised go to the school, the other 30% go towards the student prizes and 10% goes to the organisation for setting up and managing the fundraising page.
So far we have already raised $2500, great job team - keep up the awesome effort!
Only 4 weeks until our school cross-country.
Teacher Only Days this term:

CATHOLIC CHARACTER
Feast Day 6th August
The Transfiguration of the Lord - In the New Testament, the Transfiguration of Jesus is an event where Jesus is transfigured and becomes radiant in glory upon a mountain. ... In these accounts, Jesus and three of his apostles, Peter, James, and John, go to a mountain (later referred to as the Mount of Transfiguration) to pray.
Interesting facts -The Transfiguration is the last painting by the Italian High Renaissance master Raphael. Commissioned by Cardinal Giulio de Medici, the later Pope Clement VII (1523–1534), and conceived as an altarpiece for the Narbonne Cathedral in France, Raphael worked on it until his death in 1520. From the late 16th century until the early 20th century(Renaissance era), it was said to be the most famous oil painting in the world.
