5th Sunday of Easter
15 May 2022
Readings for today
1st Reading: Acts 14:21-27
2nd Reading: Apocalypse 21:1-5
Gospel: John 13:31-35
Welcome to the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary & St Matthew
In today’s gospel, Jesus encourages us to love one another as he has loved us. He showed this love by his willingness to be humiliated, scourged, and crucified for our sins. It is precisely this type of love that Christ is calling us to express in our everyday lives.
Pope Francis Monthly Intention: Faith-Filled Young People
We pray for all young people, called to live life to the fullest; may they see in Mary’s life the way to listen, the depth of discernment, the courage that faith generates, and the dedication to service.
O God, Trinity of love,
From the profound communion of your divine life,
Pour out upon us a torrent of fraternal love.
Grant us the love reflected in the actions of Jesus,
In his family of Nazareth,
And in the early Christian community.
Grant that we Christians may live the Gospel,
Discovering Christ in each human being,
Recognizing him crucified
In the sufferings of the abandoned
And forgotten of our world,
And risen in each brother or sister
Who makes a new start.
Come Holy Spirit,
Show us your beauty in all the peoples of the earth,
So that we may discover anew
That all are important and all are necessary,
Different faces of the one humanity
That God so loves. Amen.
Fratelli Tutti, Pope Francis

We pray for the Ukraine...
Holy and Gracious God
We pray for the people of the Ukraine, for their country and their leader.
We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear.
We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness.
We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace.
We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they are inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ.
Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace in Ukraine.
And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son.
Lord have mercy.
Amen
