Counseling News
Mrs. Larson
At Eagles, I work with ALL students. I will be in your students' classroom 2 times each month teaching lessons on skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, and problem solving.
In the Fargo Public Schools, we use a counseling curriculum called Second Step.
When I am not teaching lessons, I spend most of my time meeting with students individually and in small group. I am happy to meet with any child. School Counseling is brief and solution focused and topics may include: Changing families, Friendship, conflict management, anxiety, anger, grief, self-regulation, self-esteem, and so much more. If you have concerns about your student's mental health or social/emotional well being, or if there have been recent changes in your family that you are concerned about, please feel free to reach out. I will meet with your student and we can discuss how we should move forward. Sometimes student's need further services in our community and I am able to support and assist in finding resources and referrals as well.
I know that students learn best when they are well rested and have full bellies. School counselors are great at helping families with resources in the community for food, clothing, and medical care. Please do not hesitate to reach out if your family is facing challenging times. We also have "the backpack" program at school, which provides food for students over the weekends. There will be a form coming home soon, if you think this may be helpful for your family.
Lastly, I have a Podcast, Hear for the Kids, which features guest and information to support the social and emotional health of our students. I hope you check it out! We are always happy to hear what topics our listeners find helpful!
I am available by phone or email and you can expect a response from me within 1 working day. I hope to hear from you this year!
Minute Meetings
These questions are aligned with the 4 counseling domains of the American School Counseling Association: Academics, Career, Social, and Emotional. It is also very important to us at Eagles that your student feels safe and has an adult they can talk to in the building, should they have concerns.
I look forward to these visits and talking with your student!
