Calorie
the energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water through 1 °C (now usually defined as 4.1868 joules)
Calorimeter
an apparatus for measuring the amount of heat involved in a chemical reaction or other process
Celcius
of or denoting a scale of temperature in which water freezes at 0° and boils at 100° under standard conditions.
Kelvin
the temperature at which all thermal motion ceases in the classical description of thermodynamics.
Conduction
is the transfer of internal energy by microscopic diffusion and collisions of particles
Temperature
numerical measure of hot and cold. Its measurement is by detection of heat radiation or particle velocity or kinetic energy
Exothermic
("outside heating") describes a process or reaction that releases energy from the system
Evaporation
type of vaporization of a liquid that occurs from the surface of a liquid into a gaseous phase that is not saturated with the evaporating substance (when a liquid is going into gas form)
Endothermic
describes a process or reaction in which the system absorbs energy from its surroundings in the form of heat
