Recent Updates:
Instructions for Student Drop Off & Pick Up
- Drop off time starts at 7:00 am and pick up time ends at 2:15 pm.
- Students will be unsupervised before and after this time which poses a safety concern
Town Hall Meeting and Cell Phone Expectations
- Last Wednesday we met with all our students to celebrate our first quarter successes and also review our PBIS expectations.
- Students were reminded of all the rules and expectations. We also introduced our new cell phone violation policy.
- WS/FCS policy states that cell phones should not be seen or heard during the instructional day. See more information below.
- At WMS if students continue to take out their phones for non instructional use we will give students two warnings. After the second warning we will confiscate the phone and students can pick up their phone at the end of the day in the front office.
- After the third warning parents will need to pick up their students cell phone in the front office.
- Please refrain from calling or texting your students during the school day. If you have an emergency call the front office and we will ensure that you connect with your student.
- Help us by reviewing the expectations with your student(s). Thanks for your support!
Choice/Magnet Application Period is Open!
- Don’t forget our Magnet and Choice application period for grades 1 through 11 is open now through January 26, 2024. Families should be on the lookout for the 2024-2025 Assignment and Choice letters. If you would like to make a different choice, you can set up your family dashboards online now. Please see your letter or visit the Choice and Magnet Schools website for all the information.
EOG Changes
- Starting this year, information from the N.C. Check-Ins, given throughout the year, will be used to assign EOG test forms for students. In other words, NC DPI will analyze the Check-In scores and students who didn’t score well on the Check-Ins will be assigned a form that starts off with easier items. Students who scored middle of the road will be assigned the regular EOG test form. Students who scored well on the NC Check-Ins will be assigned a form that starts with more difficult items. Students who don’t have two NC Check-Ins scores for a particular subject will receive the regular EOG test form.
- There are a set of common items that all students will receive on all test forms.
- The number of questions and the test administration is the same for all.
- Students can score any achievement level (5,4,3, or not proficient) on the final test, regardless of the test form they end up using.
- Multiple districts have piloted this method and NC DPI says the benefit of the different testing forms provides students with a more personalized assessment based on their ability.
Information Items:
Report Cards & How to Check Your Students Grades
- We have just completed the first week of the second quarter. Report Cards will go home on November 8th.
- If you have any questions about setting up your PowerSchool Parent Portal to check grades daily please call the school and ask to speak to Ms. Sharp, our data manager.
- Parents/Guardians-your students can also show you their grades. All our students have been taught how to check their grades using their computer, so ask them to show you their grades every week.
Office Hours
- WMS office hours are from 6:45-3:00. Please understand that we are always open to hearing your questions or concerns, but we may not all be available during the school day. If you could please help us serve you better by calling us first to check if we are available. If we are not, we will make certain to make time to call you back and schedule a meeting. Thanks for helping us by working together!
