Neville Longbottom

Tragic Heroes...

  • Of noble stature
  • They are not perfect, they are flawed
  • Their downfall is somewhat their fault
  • Their misfortune is not wholly their fault
  • Their fall is not a pure loss, they usually learn something from their loss
  • The tragedy does not leave the audience in a state of depression

Brave

He stood up to Lord Voldemort and refused his offer to be a Death Eater. He knew Voldemort could have killed him but he refused to give in, and to stop fighting for what was right. He was a loyal and brave person always, especially to his friends.

Hard worker

He worked probably the hardest in D.A.(Dumbledore's Army) meetings. He tried to improve his skills in performing spells that Harry taught to Dumbledore's Army. Neville wanted to show everyone that he could be just as good. He wanted to make his parents proud.

Perseverance

Throughout all his years he was clumsy and shy, but he kept trying his hardest and never gave up. A Death Eater named Bellatrix Lestrange tortured Neville's parents til they were driven insane because they wouldn't give up what they knew to Voldemort. Neville was always told that he was not good enough but he used all this to persevere and show everyone he could do it. Like a tragic hero he kept going and never gave up.

Flaws

One of Neville's biggest flaws was his low self-esteem. He always doubted himself, and often believed people when they told him he was a disappointment and that he'd never be like his parents. But he overcame this and started to believe in himself which made everyone see why he was put in Gryffindor.

Quotes from the Deathly Hallows

"I'll join you when hell freezes over!" - Neville Longbottom

"People die everyday! Friends, family. Yeah, we lost Harry tonight. He's still with us , in here. *motions to his heart. So's Fred, Remus, Tonks, all of them. They didn't die in vain. But you will! Because you're wrong! Harry's heart did beat for us, for all of us. It's not over!" -Neville Longbottom

All these quotes were Neville telling Lord Voldemort that they weren't going to stop fighting, that they would fight to death and would rather die than join him. Neville was an ordinary wizard and in the beginning, and was rather bad at magic and people doubted him. But he comes to a point of self-realization and decides that he will make his parents proud and rise above everything just like a tragic hero should rise above their obstacles in life.
