Superintendent's Message

Dear JUHSD Community,

As we enter this fall recess and first extended break of the school year, I hope that you are able to spend time enjoying your family, friends, and loved ones.

National Gratitude Month

During November, National Gratitude Month, I share the District's appreciation for all who support our students every day ... teachers, staff administrators and families! Thank you to our families for nurturing your children and entrusting them to our schools. We appreciate the support you show as sports boosters, PTA and Site Council members, arts supporters, and more! Thanks to our students who show up fully each day, working hard and bringing joy to our campuses. You are the only reason that we are here! Thanks to teachers and school staff who teach, counsel, support, and care for our students each day. And, thank you to the administrators who support each and every person on their sites and hold everything down! I'm so grateful that you are all part of our JUHSD family. I encourage you to spend time this month reflecting on what you are thankful for and sharing your gratitude with others.

Fall Recess, November 21-25, 2022

During this Thanksgiving vacation, I hope all are able to take a true break to celebrate this festive time of year with your loved ones.

We ask that all students and staff take the District-issued COVID take-home antigen tests (distributed to all sites this week) on Sunday, November 27 or Monday, November 28 prior to returning to campus, and again on Wednesday, November 30, during that first week back. If you are ill, please stay home and follow the COVID guidance.

Have a wonderful break and know that my door is always open.

Toni Presta

District Office Hours Next Week

In observance of our District's fall recess, all school sites will be closed Monday, November 21 through Friday, November 25 with school resuming on Monday, November 28. The District Office will be open during the following hours next week:

*Monday: 8:00 am-4:00 pm

*Tuesday: 8:00 am-4:00 pm

*Wednesday: 8:00 am-12:00 pm

*Thursday & Friday: Closed

Antigen Testing During Thanksgiving Break

This week, all District students and staff received two take-home rapid antigen COVID tests. As mentioned in this Update's opening message from Superintendent Presta, the District encourages everyone to take these tests on Sunday, November 27 or Monday, November 28 prior to returning to campus, and again on Wednesday, November 30, during that first week back.

If you test positive, you are asked to fill out this form and follow the current guidance found here. For additional COVID-related information, please visit the District’s COVID Response Page.

Something to note: Many have asked if they can use FDA-authorized at-home COVID diagnostic tests that have expired. Though the FDA does not recommend using these tests beyond their authorized expiration dates, diagnostic tests may be extended as additional stability data is collected. You can check the Expiration Date column of the List of Authorized At-Home OTC COVID-19 Diagnostic Tests to see if your at-home OTC COVID-19 test has been extended and how to find any new expiration date.

Transgender Day of Remembrance

Sunday, November 20, is National Transgender Remembrance Day, a time for the LGBTQ+ community to honor, celebrate, and uplift the trans community. With anti-trans rhetoric and legislation at all-time highs, now more than ever, we need to listen to our trans community about our experiences. To learn more about ways in which you can honor and support this week, including resources and guides, please visit the Human Rights Campaign's website.
