Port Susan Middle School
Family & Student Update 04/30/2023
Extracurricular activities
This week, our 8th grade students that are interested in high school football had the opportunity to meet with Coach Scoma regarding making positive choices, doing well in school, and what the timeline for fall sports look like. We look forward to watching our 8th grade students as they transition to the high school. They will do great things!
Our Promise
Every student in the Stanwood-Camano School District is empowered to learn in an inclusive setting and is prepared for the future of their choice.
SBA Testing
8th grade Science will be administering the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) starting on Monday. For state testing, we will provide all testing materials for students. Please remind your student to bring their Chromebook fully charged.
Starting next week on May 8th, students will take the assessment in mathematics and language arts. We will have headphones for students. However, if they'd like to use their own/personal headphones, please make sure they are WIRED and plug into our Chromebook (state testing does not allow wireless headphones).
SBA Testing Schedule:
8th Grade Science *May 1st - 2nd
Math CAT *May 8th - 12th
ELA CAT *May 8th - 12th
Math PT *May 15th - 19th

Attendance Procedures
Period 1:
- Attendance will be adjusted to "tardy" if students enter first period between 7:40-7:45am
- Doors lock at 7:45am and all students that enter after that time will get a note from office
Periods 2-6:
- All students will be marked "tardy" if they enter late within a reasonable time (no more than 5 minutes)
- If students arrive after that time, they will need to get a note from the office so we can double check where they have been and contact home as needed
The message to students is that class time is valuable and that teachers do not want them to miss out on the start of the class. It also is out of respect for the learning environment and their education that they arrive on time. We will keep communication positive and let the students know that we are here to support their learning.
Dinner and a Show!
Performances of “Dinner at Eight, Dead by Nine” will be from 5-7:30 p.m. May 18, 19 and 20 at Port Susan Middle School. Tickets are $15 each.
Save the Date!
Chat with the School Board
The Board of Directors meets with constituents throughout the school year to listen and learn about the community’s opinions, suggestions, and concerns. There is no agenda for these events; they are informal, and anyone can attend.
The next event is 6-7 p.m. Tuesday May 2 at Stanwood Middle School. Spanish interpreter will be available.
