Community Conversations
April 2022
Dear Methacton Families,
In this month’s Community Conversations – I want to start by thanking all the volunteers that helped with the revival of the Post Prom event! It took hundreds of people over an entire year to plan and coordinate, to design and draw, and to orchestrate an evening of fun for our juniors and seniors. Thank you to Lisa Coupe and Gabby Winters for your leadership and taking the reins after a two-year hiatus. You may recall that we held a 20 year celebration in 2019 (see Board recognition here). What started as a community measure to keep students safe on prom night now maintains a long history of success and has been revived following the pandemic to continue in the tradition.
Another shout out to all the students, staff and community members that participated in the district's strategic planning effort. The plan document is nearly complete. It will be presented at the May Board of School Directors meeting and will feature an online component to allow the public to monitor progress toward completing strategies. The presentation will provide a high-level summary of efforts over the next 5 years on the following:
- Stem Academy
- Student Growth/Achievement, Instruction, Staff Development, & Technology,
- Pupil Services,
- Communications/Information Resources,
- Athletics/Clubs & Activities,
- Safety/Facilities/Infrastructure
- Financial Management/Human Resources,
- and, Student, Staff, Community experiences.
In all, the plan will serve to guide the district forward towards ensuring an exceptional Methacton School District experience for all.
In addition, we have a new episode of the Community Conversations video series, which highlights the great work of the Alumni Association led by alumnus Tom Ruth and Marijane Barbone.
You will begin to see and hear more about the Alumni Association at district events, including the Community Walk-Through at Arrowhead Elementary School on May 25, 2022.
Now let’s take a look at some of the outstanding events and achievements that took place across the district in April...

APRIL 7TH | A BIG DAY AT EAGLEVILLE
It has certainly been a long journey during the Eagleville construction. Students, staff, and the community have been so supportive, and we are more than thrilled with the results. April 7th's Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was a great way to celebrate. The Eagleville Art Show, Family Book Fair Night, and Orff Ensemble's performance added to the excitement.
Thank you to all our families that were able to make it, we had a huge turnout!
STUDENTS SUPPORT THE RODRIGUES FRUIT BATS
Eagleville Elementary Challenge students, as part of the Rodrigues Warriors Team from all four district elementary schools, recently spread awareness to 2nd through 4th grade classrooms about the Rodrigues Fruit Bat and its challenges. They have been working on an animal awareness campaign with The Philadelphia Zoo.
You can help by visiting their website and taking the pledge to help these bats. Their goal is to have as many people visit the site, learn about the bats, and take the pledge as possible.

On April 1, Worcester had a Science Fair. Approximately 60 students in grades K-4 participated. The experiments and research conducted was extremely impressive, and we certainly have some future biologists, chemists and engineers here at Worcester! Prizes were awarded in several categories for each grade level. The night ended with an exciting science presentation called “Weird Science”! We had a great turn out, and it was a fun event for all.

CAREER DAY
Skyview hosted an engaging Career Day in April! We welcomed 48 professionals who spoke to our students about their career journey. We were thrilled to welcome a local entrepreneur, Aaron Muderick, the maker of Crazy Aaron’s Putty! Many students have this putty at home so it was exciting for them to hear all about how Aaron was inspired to become a successful business owner creating putty! Aaron also figured out a way to keep his workers employed through the pandemic while he turned his putty making factory into a hand sanitizer factory. He shared his message of how doing something you love while serving others is an important part of success!
SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS AT HOME
Skyview hosted a virtual science night this month! Students had the opportunity to participate in two virtual science experiments through Discover Science Center. The first experiment focused on catapults and the second experiment focused on polymers. Students received science kits for each experiment they signed up for and had the opportunity to conduct their experiments in the comfort of their own home!

The Pennsylvania WoodMobile made its way to Arcola for our 8th grade students to experience.
