Message from the Principal
Happy Sunday Panthers!
Last week, my general message focused on a return to campus the week of November 9. In a demonstration of how fast things can change these days, my comments must now focus on a return to campus on Tuesday, January 19th.
To begin, I want to acknowledge and recognize everyone who has taken the time to communicate with NPHS and the school district their opinions, feelings and questions related to a return to campus on January 19th. Regardless of where you stand on the decision, your opinion and voice is important to me. Your input continues to fuel our thinking as we seek ways to best support our teachers, students and the entire Newbury Park community
During the Board meeting, much time was spent discussing the role that the high school master schedules played in the decision to delay the re-opening of high school campuses. In an effort to better explain high school master schedules, I am planning to host a Zoom webinar for any parents who'd like to hear a explanation of how high school master schedules impacted the decision on Thursday evening - the time of the webinar has yet to be determined, but I'll be sending an email out to the community on Monday with finalized information and registration instructions. The presentation will last for thirty minutes and then we'll entertain questions for another thirty minutes.
Later on, we will also share a time to provide an in-depth presentation of all the safety protocols put in place to provide a safe and secure return to school. Below is the current school plan that is part of the overall district reopening plan.
Monday is also the start to the second sub-term for our term block classes. This is a great opportunity for all students to refocus their daily efforts to establish an academic routine, stay on top of all assignments and activities and use all the resources available for all students including our Twilight Tutoring Academy.
We thank you ahead of time for supporting our efforts and being our partners in education.
WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER!

I hope this message finds you well and that your student had a successful start to Quarter 2.
Over the past few days, we realize that there have been many questions regarding the timeline for our reopening. In an effort to help provide communication regarding this timeline, our reopening schedule, where we are now, and the next steps, we will be hosting a YouTube Live event on Thursday, October 29th, at 5:30 pm.

Athletics Update
More Teams Returning to Practices
Football, Boys & Girls Water Polo, and Baseball have been going strong since returning to Phase 1 in the summer. New teams getting back into the swing of things include Girls Lacrosse, Wrestling, and Softball. On the horizon are Boys and Girls Tennis, and Boys & Girls Swimming.
Board Meeting Decision and Effect on Athletics
The CVUSD Board of Education voted 10/20 to have high school students return January 19th, the end of the first term. This local school board decision will not affect the CIF schedule whatsoever. The CIF Southern Section alone comprises of over 500 schools across 7 counties. CIF has already stated that they will not move the current season if schools, leagues, counties cannot compete (eg the Fall season gets cancelled). Essentially, each season has one shot this school year.
The District will continue to allow Co-Curricular student-athletes to return to campus for practices. They also will be allowed to compete before most students are allowed to be on campus for academics. This is similar to a typical Fall sports season, where several teams often compete before school is in session. Technically, all of our students are still enrolled at our school, so the physical location has no bearing on eligibility. Additionally, for years CVUSD high schools have had student-athletes who are on Independent Study as well as attend classes at Century Academy. For the most part, neither group has stepped foot on campus other than practices and competitions.
We will continue to be in Phase 2 until we hear otherwise. We hope to continue to progress through the phases and slowly relax the protocols to continue on this upward path.
National Letter of Intent
Seniors: If you, or anyone you know at NP who is planning to sign a National Letter of Intent in November, please let the Athletics Department asap know so we can acknowledge your accomplishment!
Softball Field Construction Update
Construction for the softball field continues to progress. Grading for the parking lot has been completed. A trench to run electrical is currently being dug from the campus out to the field. New fence posts are being dug.Girls Lacrosse Pre-Season: Come join the growing and successful Girls Lacrosse program! Beginners welcome. Varsity went 6-0 last spring and ranked #3 in CIF.
