Greetings Falcon Nation,

Thank you to all students, parents, and staff that joined us for our Love, Laugh, Lively Potluck. There have been several requests for the hot pink shirt we used that Friday. If you would like to purchase one, please fill out the link below.

The end of the 4th six weeks is next Friday. Please be sure to communicate with your child and your child’s teacher for any missing work or study materials. Students who are designated as English Learners will be taking the TELPAS (Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System) February 25-28. The test has four components, a reading assessment, a speaking listening, and writing assessments, which will be conducted at different times. Students will also be completing writing samples in their core classes. A student can graduate from the TELPAS assessment once they have reached Advanced High level in all four areas of language: reading, writing, speaking, listening, and passed their grade level STAAR Reading test. Below is the schedule for the 4th six weeks tests and TELPAS.

Big picture

I have attached the Middle Years newsletter in this article; you will find helpful tips for managing homework, setting expectations for your teenager, and positively managing social media accounts.

I have an update on the security gates for the campus. Construction will begin this school year and should be completed before August 2020. Today I did a walkthrough with Construction Management and reviewed the plans and selected Lively blue for the gate color. Thank you for all the parents who reached out to ensure this project gets completed.

My apologies for not being transparent and communicating with parents as to why the second STAAR Interim assessment was canceled. Unfortunately, we had a shortage of 16 teachers on our campus that day and were unable to execute the procedures for the test effectively. The Kona Ice truck has been rescheduled for Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22nd.

Please join us for the Aladdin Musical happening this weekend. Please see link below for more information and the show times.

Cyber Security - Keeping Up with Risky Apps

It seems like every time you turn around, there's a new app -- or type of app -- that's popular with tweens and teens. While the old standbys like Snapchat and Instagram are still going strong, there's no shortage of social media apps that are popular but not necessarily household names. And social media apps are just the beginning. Of course, it's nearly impossible to keep up with every hot new app, which makes knowing the risky features -- like interaction with strangers, anonymity, privacy concerns, and iffy content -- a solid first step. But it's still important to know the specifics of what's on your kid's device and whether or not you'll allow it to stay there.
