Hirono graduated with honors from Kaimuki High School and earned her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington D.C. She served as a Deputy Attorney General. She was elected to the Hawaii State House of Representatives in 1980 and Hirono has been recognized for her leadership in helping children's education. Hirono was born in Fukushima, Japan on November 3, 1947. She has served two-four year terms as Hawaii's 9th Lieutenant Governor and is also apart of the Democratic Party. To be a Senator you need to be at least 30 years old and a U.S. citizen for 9 years. The duties of a senator is to represent their state in the federal government. Hirono believes if we speed up the development of renewable energy we can stop ourselves from oil dependence.
