Hawk Talk February 11th, 2022
Engage ~ Inspire ~ Empower
A Message from the Principal...
Hazel Dell Families,
Another fun and productive week at the Dell! We had the STEAM museum visit and what a fun experience it was! (see pics below). Thank you PTO for sponsoring this event!
As mentioned earlier, we are at the start of the “testing season” where many things are happening. We wrapped up NWEA and we have started the screening for High Ability. Come March our third graders will take iRead followed by iLearn in April. To help our students succeed and to lessen stress we are working hard to focus on test-taking strategies, goal-setting, and taking mindful moments to best focus on the work. We are also doing our best to bring laughter and smiles to all our hawks. Whether it is the STEAM museum, the book fair, fun music in the hallways or watching Romeo eat crumbs that fall during lunch - a little laughter always sets the stage for a healthy heart and mind.
Speaking of well-being…next week kicks off our Kindness Week! Many interactive activities are planned. We will have a poster contest, kindness bingo, and ideas for random acts of kindness - just to name a few. We will also have a spirit day each day next week!
2nd annual celebration - Random Acts of Kindness Week!
Students who wish to enter the poster contest should submit a standard paper size (8.5 x 11) poster decorated with a kindness theme. Posters need to be submitted to the offie no later than the end of the day on Wednesday Feb 16th . Please include the student full name on the back of the poster. All poster entries will be displayed and 10 winners will be chosen to receive a small prize on Friday Feb 18th.
For our community act of kindness we will be collecting new and unopened Uno games to donate to Riley Children's Hospital. Should you wish to donate, your student can bring donations and drop them in the designated boxes near the front office.

High Ability (FOCUS) Screening
Parents: Noblesville Schools relies on NWEA scores to identify students who achieve at exceptional levels for High Ability (FOCUS) instruction. To identify students with the potential for high achievement that is not reflected in NWEA scores, all students in kindergarten and second grade who are not already identified as High Ability in both math and English language arts will take an online screener called the Cognitive Abilities Test, or CogAT. Students who meet the benchmark on the screener will later take the remaining portions of the CogAT. All fifth graders who are not already identified as High Ability in both math and English language arts and who meet the benchmark will take the full CogAT without first taking the screener.
If you have questions about high ability testing and instruction, go to www.noblesvilleschools.org and click on Academics and then on High Ability. Questions may also be directed to the principal.

Recess Reminders:
- We will go outside as long as it “feels” 10 degrees or above.
- When snow is on the ground, students must have snow boots and snow pants to play in the snow.
- When snow is on the ground, if students are not wearing boots and snow pants, they can play on the blacktop.
- Temperatures do fluctuate throughout the day. Teachers are mindful of our guidelines and they keep a close eye on the weather. It is possible that one grade has recess and another does not - it all depends on the weather at recess time.

Panorama Student Survey
Panorama Student Survey
Noblesville Schools is committed to providing a great school experience for all students. To help achieve this we will use a platform called Panorama to survey students in grades 3-5 during the dates of February 28 - March 11, 2022. The Panorama survey seeks to gather input on topics like school climate and culture, emotion regulation, self-management, social awareness and belonging. When students feel connected to their school environment, they are more engaged and increasingly successful in both academic and social achievements. More information on the survey can be found here.
Although the survey is not mandatory, student perceptions will provide valuable insights for future planning, support and programming. Results will be used to determine needs based on trends for our school.
If you wish for your student to opt-out, you can submit an opt-out form. The survey is voluntary and students are welcome to choose an alternate activity (read, homework, etc.) at the time the survey is given.
If you have any questions regarding the survey, please contact our district counseling coordinator, Dana Nelson at (317) 773- 3171 or dana_nelson@nobl.k12.in.us
Thank you for your support of this important opportunity to best serve students and our school community.
