On Wednesday, December 14, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the BVN Library, all 9th and 10th grade students are invited to receive support & tutoring services from Student Council, Mustang Mentors, and National Honor Society students to help them to prepare for finals! What a great way to help these students prep for finals and enjoy snacks & hot cocoa. Make sure your freshman and/or sophomore students have this on their calendar. There are Blue Valley North families in need and we want to offer assistance during the holiday season. If you are able, please sign up at the Holiday Gifts link below and then drop your gift card(s) off in the main office. Give it to the BVN receptionist in a sealed envelope titled “Family #1”, "Family #2", etc.

We are calling all bakers and candy makers!!! This year, to show our appreciation for our Blue Valley North staff for the Holidays, we are going to serve them a dessert bar on, Friday, December 16th. We'd love to have you share your favorite Holiday treats with us for the staff to enjoy while they are grading finals! (Please tell us what you are bringing, so we don't end up with 20 versions of brownies or chocolate chip cookies:) If you would like to donate but aren't feeling the desire to bake (or buy), we are also collecting Keurig cups for the staff. Officer Tony Latas, BVN Student Resource Officer, and Sean Birdsong, BVN Student Support Liaison, are running a Student Support After School program. This program is Monday and Wednesday, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. in room 602. This time is for students who are routinely waiting a few hours for rides after school, having any failing grades, and/or missing assignments that need to be completed.

This is also a good opportunity for students needing community service hours. If your student is interested in volunteering or you have questions, have your student see Officer Latas, Mr. Birdsong or any BVN Administrator. Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who has already responded to the Kansas Communities That Care consent form in ParentVue. If you haven’t done so yet, we kindly ask that you complete this by December 16, 2022. More information follows:

Current Blue Valley students in 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th grades are invited to take the Kansas Communities That Care student survey in January 2023.

Blue Valley has participated in this survey for many years, and continued participation allows our staff to understand yearly trends, measuring the effect that our prevention and responsive programming has on our students.

The Kansas Communities That Care student survey is offered by schools across Kansas and is supported by Greenbush Education Service Center and the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services. The survey is built on a framework of prevention to support effective, evidence-based strategies in Kansas communities. The survey is voluntary, and parents or guardians must complete a form granting permission for their student to take the survey.

Questions for the Kansas Communities That Care Survey (KCTC Survey) can be found on the district website under “useful links.” Questions are related to substance use, school climate, bullying, depression, and suicide. The survey is completely anonymous, and no identifying student personal information is collected. The Blue Valley School District receives data summarized by school and our overall district results.

Permission for the Kansas Communities That Care survey can be entered in ParentVue until December 16, 2022. We want to give a huge thank you to all those who donated dolls and stuffed animals. The amazing students who helped to organize this drive were passionate about helping the ladies in the Alzheimer’s unit at Garden Terrace in Overland Park. They teamed with Officer Latas and his wife, along with Sarah King, BVN Student Services Assistant, to deliver the dolls and stuffed animals this week. We are grateful for your help in making this a successful service project for our caring students.

Math Competitions

Inviting all interested in participating in math competitions: Mathleague has a series of high school online math contests. Top-scoring students in qualifying rounds are invited to compete in the State Championship contest. You need to register and pay for yourself and take the test online. If you are interested, please register online at: https://mathleague.org/hs.php . Upcoming online dates are December 10 and 18. There are other dates in the new year. FCA Meetings

FCA meets on Wednesday mornings from 7:00 - 7:30 a.m. in the Little Theatre. Come for fellowship and fun! If you have questions, please email BVN teacher, Jason Jones at JJones05@bluevalleyk12.org .

Have unwanted school supplies? Please donate to Scraps KC! Blue Valley North is partnering with www.ScrapsKC.org to collect used or new school supplies. The items needed are listed above. Please ask your student to drop off items in the large white bin outside the library or the small buckets in the main office & student services office. The first pickup will be Tuesday, December 13. Safe Schools Reporting

ParentVUE URL updated -- Action Needed

Over the summer the URL for ParentVUE changed. Click here for the new URL: ParentVUE

Parents will need to have the new URL or they won’t be able to login to ParentVUE or request a password reset. The Blue Valley School District website and the BVN website have both been updated with the new URL so the parents can access the link from Parent>ParentVUE.

In addition, this also impacts the ParentVUE app. Parents will need to update their device to the correct link.

Student Digital ID Cards

Students have a digital student ID card on their phones. If you paid for a Student Activity Pass, it should say that on the ID and students will show this to get into games. They can save their ID on their home page on an iPhone, or it can be saved as a favorite page on an android phone. If students were absent on Picture Day or if they have any trouble loading the ID, they can come to Student Services for help.

Family Activity Passes

All Family Activity Passes and Adult Individual Passes have been distributed. If you paid for your Family Activity Pass by the end of the day on September 13 but haven't received it yet, the cards were sent home with your student. If you purchase a pass after September 13, you need to contact Lori Freeman, BVN Bookkeeper, to obtain your cards.

All registered Blue Valley voters will have an opportunity to vote in a no tax rate increase bond election in January 2023. Bond projects include investments in facilities, safety and technology that will benefit staff and students for years to come.

Here are a few ways to learn more about Bond 2023.

• Listen to a podcast: Take time to listen to two 15-minute podcasts about Bond 2023 & Facilities and Bond 2023 & Safety.

• Watch a video: Watch a short video that breaks down how bond funds can be used. Want to learn more? Watch an informational video that highlights the opportunity to invest in facilities, safety and technology projects through Bond 2023.

• Review the Bond 2023 website: The Bond 2023 website includes information about voting, answers to frequently asked questions and more.

• Register to vote: All registered Blue Valley voters will automatically receive a mail ballot around January 11. Not a registered voter? Register online.
