The Cloud Connection
March 23, 2015
Reading: Students are reading Sci-fi books; either The Giver or The City of Ember. Each book presents great topics for literary discussions. We'll work on answering questions using complete sentences.
Language: The class did a great job critiquing some sample On-Demand papers last week. We're going to take those skills and apply them as we go over letter writing this week. We'll also spend a day working on combining sentences. Our spelling words follow the VCV pattern: human, exact, award, behave, credit, basic, vivid, evil, modern, nation, robot, panic, select, cousin, item, police prefer, menu, novel and deserve.
Our test is Fri.
Math: We have a math test Wed. covering chapter 10. Then we'll move onto multiplying fractions. Problem solving is due Thurs. We'll work on a review of the year's skills with our Mountain Math on Tues.
Students are enjoying their time with our guest Artist in Residence, Marie Alexson. They are incorporating movement in the form of yoga with drawing and writing as they create their own spirit flags. We'll have our final two art sessions with her this week.
We are trying to complete a collaborative piece of art for the Art Jubilee this week. I need a nice looking finished board somewhere between 12 X 24 and 18 x 18, we are flexible concerning the size. If you have such an item you could donate to us please send it in on Mon. or Tues. at the latest. Thank you!
Thank you to the parents who accompanied us on our birding trip last week. It was a perfect day! The students loved playing the games and learning about local winter birds. Many are excited about doing more birding with families and we learned that Island and Ocean loans out binoculars for free! What a deal!
Reading logs are due on Monday, March 30.
Students are working hard toward our Healthy Futures "get active" initiative. It runs through April. Please help your child by recording their active minutes on their sheet. Their sheets are due the last Friday of March or the following day. Students who are participating in the walking club at school can use those minutes as well.
Many thanks to all of you who helped make our Bingo night on Friday a huge success! A special thank you to A.J.'s, Alice's, Timeless Toys, Homer Jeans, The Homer Bookstore and the Etzweiler's for donating prizes. We appreciate the goodies you supplied for sale (leftovers will be sold at school on Monday,) and the wonderful support of Mrs. Otis, Mrs. Romanko, Mrs. Peek, Mrs. Blaine, Mrs. Haines and our own "Betty Bingo," Mrs. Cotton as well as the rest of you who came to play or supported us in other ways. With your help we were able to raise over $600 to offset our costs! Thank you!
