Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians:
We are excited to host the 7th annual STEAM Fair at WCS on Wednesday, March 27, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., with a snow date of Thursday, March 28. Our booths are filling up quickly and anyone who is still interested in participating can reach out to us at wcssteam@windhamsd.org by Friday, March 22.
To all of our parents, guardians, and community members: Thank you for your participation in this year's WSD voting! We are excited for WCS as well as each school throughout the district after the positive outcomes. All-day Kindergarten is a tremendous step forward for our students and school system as a whole. We appreciate the value that you place on education in our town and were thrilled see 256 of our students participate in Kids Vote. I am sure that we will have fun with the water balloon toss at Field Day this June!
On Wednesday, March 20, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Castleton, our PTA nominees for Educator of the Year will gather with family, friends, and colleagues. Our own fifth grade teacher and nominee, Mr. Mike Miloro, will be in attendance and we are thrilled for him to represent our school. It will be a terrific opportunity to recognize all nominees for their commitment to teaching and learning. Tickets are going fast but can still be purchased at www.windhampta.org.
As we work on our floor plan for next year's Grade 5/6 school, I wanted to take a moment to recognize our current third grade team of teachers. This has been the first year in quite some time that the team has been reunited under one roof and they have done a remarkable job. Transitioning from WHS to WCS this year has been a major win for the team and I don't want to lose sight of their commitment to each other and WCS. Kudos is also in order to our Art, Music, Spanish, Band and Digital Literacy teachers who deliver instruction via cart and on the stage each day. Next year, we are pleased to announce that they will have permanent locations to teach with the expected availability of classroom spaces.
With that said, we continue to move forward with planning for next year. At a recent principal coffee hour, I was made aware of some concerns regarding bus transportation as it relates to fifth graders sharing a bus with eighth graders. We are confident that our protocols will help to ease any concerns since we currently experience a similar dynamic with kindergarteners sharing a bus with fifth graders. We will address scheduling, programming, floor plans, and school operations at a date that will soon be announced. In the meantime, if you have any concerns ahead of time that you believe should be considered, please feel free to reach out to either myself or Mrs. Freccero at roconnor@windhamsd.org and kfreccero@windhamsd.org, respectively. No detail is too small to consider and your feedback is always helpful!
Sincerely,
Rory O’Connor
