School Photos Tuesday, October 1

School photographs are scheduled for October 1 and a make-up day has been added for October 24.

Parent Workshop: How to Engage Your Child and Help Them Be Successful in School

The school counselors and parent liaison of Clairemont Elem. and Talley Street Upper Elem. will conduct a parent workshop entitled, "How to engage your child and help them be successful in school." This workshop will include topics such as effective strategies to engage your child in conversation, anxiety reduction techniques, friendship skills, academic success tips and much more. We will hold two identical sessions. The first session will be on October 2nd at 6 p.m. at the Dekalb Housing Authority Community Center. The second session will be on Oct. 3rd at 8:30 a.m. at Talley St. Upper Elementary in the cafeteria. If you have a child at Clairemont or Talley Street Upper, we look forward to seeing you there. Gifted Review

Important Information about Gifted Review

Each fall semester the gifted review team looks at existing student data to discuss students’ needs and to determine if further evaluation for possible gifted identification is needed. If you are interested in having the team discuss your child’s needs, you may complete a Recommendation for Review Form (found at the website below) and submit it to the Gifted Specialist at your child’s school by October 9th. No additional information is needed. The Gifted Specialist for Talley is Nicole Fiber and Stephanie Trauner. For more detailed information about the review process and to obtain a copy of the Recommendation for Review Form, please contact the Gifted Specialist for your school at Talley or visit the following website: https://www.csdecatur.net/Page/581.

Lost and Found

Please ensure that students check the lost and found located at Ms. Parks' desk each day. All items remaining in lost and found at the end of each month will be donated to the local GoodWill store.

Talley celebrates INTERNATIONAL WALK & ROLL Day this Friday, October 4th!

Walk or ride with your student to Talley! Enjoy a Banjo hot or cold brew coffee, and spend a few minutes out front for community building, before heading inside for Talley Rally music and fun with the kids! We’re excited to see everyone participating!

Our walking and biking school buses were so successful last month, we’d love to continue and add a few more locations! Please check our Google Doc to see if you can join one, or lead your own group of students!

Talley Street PTO All Members Meeting

Dear Talley Parents,

Please join us for our first, open to the public, Talley PTO All Members meeting. The meeting will be held on Monday, Oct 7th @ 6:30pm at the Talley Elementary cafeteria. In case you didn’t already know, every parent of a Talley Elementary student is automatically enrolled as a member of the Talley PTO. There is no need to register, pay a fee or present a membership card. You’re already enrolled! Childcare will be provided!

We know your time is valuable, so we’ll do our best to stick to a streamlined and efficient agenda at the meeting. Our tentative meeting topics include the following items, which may change based on PTO member feedback:

  • A recap of our Talley Supersaver card fundraiser
  • Upcoming 2019 and 2010 Talley PTO and School events
  • A review of our current treasury report

Box Tops:

Box Tops have gone digital!! Download the App, Box Tops for Education. Enter your information, select Talley St., scan receipts and done! If you still have hard copy box tops, we will be collecting them behind the front desk. There is a box labeled Box Tops for Education. Have your kiddo bring in box tops and look for the Large Envelope/box near the front desk. They’ll be collected twice a year.

Extracurricular Activities

Basketball Clinic for Girls

The Hawks Lady Ballers/Jr. NBA program are doing some big things for girls basketball players. This is an excellent opportunity to work on your skills, get ready for this year's basketball season AND meet a WNBA player! The Atlanta Hawks Lady Ballers Program and Northside Youth Organization will be teaming up to host a Her Time to Play Basketball Clinic on Columbus Day, Monday, October 14th at the NYO Gym.

The clinic is open to girls, ages 7-14 and will take place from 9:00am – 12:00pm. A special guest appearance from a member of the Atlanta Dream will provide girls the unique opportunity to receive on-court instruction and a Q&A session with a WNBA player! Participants will develop their basketball skills through fundamental stations, group drills and competitions in this 3-hour clinic. For just $30, participants will receive the following:

  • on court instruction in a girls-only setting
  • Q&A session and coaching from an Atlanta Dream WNBA player
  • clinic t-shirt and headband
  • prize giveaways
  • discounted tickets to select Hawks games
