Blue Ribbon Committee - Reconfiguration - Next Mtg - March 14
The next meeting will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, March 14 at Brownell in the Multi-Purpose Room. As in the past, the meetings will be open to the public and all materials will be posted online
All of the information presented at the first three meetings is available on our district website including details on declining enrollment, School Funding 101 by Plante Moran Cresa, an update on GPPSS finances, and more. The district is working diligently to be transparent in this process as the committee addresses this charge from the Board of Education:
Propose a reconfiguration plan for facility usage and grade configuration to be implemented in GPPSS starting no earlier than the 2020-21 school year. This plan should consider all relevant factors identified by the committee including meeting the target of substantial structural financial savings. However, the best interest of students and focusing on expanding opportunities for all students while maintaining excellence shall be at the center of the committee’s work. The plan should be specific including identifying facilities and options.
Upcoming Blue Ribbon Meeting Dates
· March 28 - South Wicking Library, 6-9 p.m.
Blue Ribbon recommendations are anticipated to be presented to the Board of Education in April, then shared through Town Halls. This will provide additional opportunity for broad community input. Ideas may be shared at any time by emailing schoolboard@gpschools.org, public comments at board meetings, or letters sent to 389 St. Clair, Grosse Pointe, 48230. It is anticipated that the Board of Education will vote on recommendations in June of 2019, with implementation in the 2020-21 school year.

Leader in Me - Habit # 5
Welcome to the March edition of our Leader in Me newsletter!
Published by the Trombly Family Learning Team
The 7 Habits are reviewed, practiced and integrated daily at Trombly. We will review the 7 Habits with you monthly. Thank you for your partnership in reinforcing your child’s leadership skills.
This month, we are learning about Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood, meaning that it is better to listen first and to talk second.
This habit is best approached by introducing listening as a skill, something that should be practiced. Simply put, we have two ears and one mouth and should use them accordingly.
Books that reinforce Habit 5:
Stellaluna by Janell Cannon; The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka; The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown; Are You My Mother? by P. D. Eastman; Is Your Mama a Llama? by Deborah Guarino; Rules by Cynthia Lord
You may hear your child use words and phrases like listening first, listening with your ears, eyes, and heart, and seeking first to understand in their conversations. You can encourage your child by using some of this language at home.
Video to reinforce Habit 5:
Instrumental Practice on "B" and "D" Days
"B" Days @ 1:20 p.m. Mon and 1:15 p.m. Tues-Fri
"D" Days @ 11:30 a.m. Mon and 11:15 a.m. Tues-Fri
Please remind your child to bring his/her instrument.
Upcoming Dates: 3/11, 3/13, 3/15, 3/19, 3/25, 3/27, 3/29
