February in the Library
Check out what we've been up to in the PHS Media Center!
Technology to Support Learning
We are very excited that the computers have been installed in the Primrose Library. The students have been using them to enhance their learning during library class and in lessons developed in collaboration with the classroom teachers. Students in Kindergarten have visited the library to research animals and their tracks. Some of our first graders have joined me with their teachers to learn about our nation's heroes and symbols. Second and third graders have begun practicing using 2 hands on the keyboard after exploring story elements and genres during read-alouds and choosing their books. Even our Magical Magazine editors have been taking advantage of the new tech by typing up Book Reviews at http://barringtonbookblog.blogspot.com/. I'm looking forward to further integration of this resource as the year progresses!

How We've Been Learning
During the month of February we:
- Participated in conversations about fiction and nonfiction texts. "Paul Bunyan" was a favorite!
- Reflected on our learning and research process.
- Published our writing with LittleBirdTales.com.
- Differentiated between types of folktales.
- Identified expression in a speaker's voice.
- Learned to identify the parts of a book.
- Started typing with 2 hands.
February Circulations: 1,464
Featured Resource: Early World of Learning
Check out World Book Classroom's Early World of Learning provided by AskRI.org. On the site, students can explore basic concepts, like shapes and numbers, read a leveled eBook, or research topics in a visual encyclopedia.
Looking Ahead
During the month of March, we are looking forward to increasing our comfort and skill with technology across all grades. In Kindergarten we will start to explore different book genres. In first grade we will finish up sharing our learning on LittleBirdTales.com with writing, drawing, and speaking. In second grade, we will enjoy some new books, while reflecting on our first BookTalk experiences. Some classes will research different countries in honor of our "One World" theme. Third graders will wrap up their exploration of folktales and begin a unit on cyber safety.
