Dear Everitt Families:

What a wonderful Soup's On! event we had with families on Wednesday evening! The Everitt community makes some delicious soup and it was so fun to enjoy a meal together and to give the students a chance to play as well. It was fun to have so many future Labradors at the event. Thank you to all who attended, helped set up and clean up, and brought soup! See below for photos of the event.

Thank you for filling out our January family survey! The survey results indicated strengths in comfort in reaching out to teachers, feeling welcome at school, communication, and understanding what is expected of students to be successful. One of the areas where we are striving to improve is in receiving help or information from teachers about how families can support learning at home. One of the ways that we've addressed this is through the slideshow found in this newsletter about what is happening in each class this month. We would love some feedback about what else may be helpful. Please reach out if you have some ideas. We are also working to develop opportunities, like the Soup's On event, for families to connect with other families in our community. Another opportunity is coming up in March. Please see the information below about our upcoming International Night. We are very excited to host the entire Wheat Ridge community at this event and can't wait to celebrate the many beautiful countries and cultures represented at Everitt.

Starting next week, we will be implementing something new in LAB time. After participating in a 30-minute social-emotional lesson, students will either be receiving additional support through assigned small groups in core classes, assigned social-emotional groups based on need, or going to self-selected enrichment sessions. Our staff is working hard to build sessions that will be helpful and engaging to students. We are excited for this opportunity for our students. The sessions will be two weeks in length. We will then use the next LAB time for social-emotional learning and team building, and to sign up for the sessions for the next two weeks.

Speaking of LAB time, in our LAB time this week, we talked about the Bystander Effect. We used information from the website Bystander Revolution in our lesson and conversations with students. I am including the website below. It is important that all students feel seen, valued, and like they belong at Everitt and we need to work together to ensure that happens. There are discussion materials and great videos that you can use for these important conversations with your children at home. There are some great tips on the "solutions" page on how students can help all kids feel welcomed at school.

Thank you for supporting and believing in your neighborhood school. It is our privilege to partner with you!

CELEBRATIONS!

Kimoni S. - Giving your presentation with style and enthusiasm. Great job!

Alexander K. - Xander is constantly striving to learn more. He asks very good questions so that he can get better. He is crushing the ukulele with his ability to stay focused, and working hard with impressive and thoughtful questions. I am so impressed with his curiosity every day. I'm grateful for a student who is willing to achieve so much in every class period!

Olivia B. - Olivia has a positive mindset and is a curious learner.

Xzavier G. - Xzavier has made great strides in participation and engagement in class. I have noticed a huge shift in his willingness to participate and engage with all other students in class. He has become more positive and comfortable in class and any activity that is being completed. This change in work ethic and attitude will carry Xzavier far and I know he will continue to be successful!

Gianna D. - At their first basketball game, Gianna was the loudest supporter both on the bench as well as on the court. G cheered for everyone and encouraged them the entire game. This encouragement and positivity lifted all others up and showed Gianna's true leadership qualities!

Lalia R. - Lalia continues to improve her work habits in PE and throughout the building. She advocates for herself and her learning and continues to step out of her comfort zone and try new things while in class. Her positive work ethic has helped others push their limits in class as well.

Angela J. - Angela started out unsure in PE but has grown to explore new things and activities with her classmates. She has changed her attitude and has become more upbeat and positive, making class enjoyable and full of laughs.

Anthony F. - Anthony displayed leadership and compassion when he quickly reacted and called the office when a staff member needed medical assistance. I'm proud of you Anthony!

Jon T. - I'd like to thank Jon Eddie for volunteering to help in the office when he is hanging out during lunch. Jon E has ventured out of his comfort zone this year, and it is wonderful to witness.

Olin W. - Giving your presentation with style and enthusiasm. Love it!
