MESSAGE FROM CROCKER PARENT GROUP PRESIDENT
The Holidays are on their way and the Crocker community is busier than ever! This time of year allows us to reflect on the things we are thankful for and all that is important at school and at home.
The Crocker Belonging Carnival was a huge success! The IDEA committee teamed up with Mrs. Slater and over 60 Crocker students to support inclusion and community fun. Students ran games and activities for the families in our community and shared how awesome it is to be a Crocker Viking.
We would like to thank Jessica Zucker and the IDEA committee along with the district maintenance crew for the creation and installation of the interactive chalkboard that promotes inclusion at Crocker. Come check it out near Mrs. Slater’s Classroom!
In the spirit of fun and community building, we would also like to thank Sara Maloney and her entire team of volunteers for organizing an awesome social for all the 6th grade students at SportsHouse last week. Can’t go wrong with friends, games, pizza and lemonade!
Our Vikings were also very busy on Halloween dressing up in costumes and contributing to the Socktober Community Service Event. Students brought in pairs of new socks to donate in exchange for a sweet treat. There were many socks collected by all grade levels and our students should be proud of their contributions.
Last week, student leaders gave tours around Crocker’s campus and spoke to incoming 6th grade families about their experiences at Crocker and the incredible things that happen here in our classrooms. Mr. Rocha, Mrs. Slater and Mrs. Ayer were on hand to answer questions and share their wisdom. It was a great morning thanks to 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders; Elizabeth Carroll, Daniel Jiang, Audrey Turner, Lennon Fells, Jack Martin, Olivia Feldman, Jackson Koo, Shaela Seidensticker, Adrian Pak, Riley Chiang and Riley Slater.
I wish you all a great Veteran’s Day and a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Shelby Van Doren
CPG President

CROCKER SPECIAL SCHEDULES 11/17 & 11/18
On Thursday, November 17th, Crocker will run a minimum day schedule with lunch starting at 12:08 PM. However, at the end of 6th period, students will participate in an ALL-School Retreat from 2:20-3:20. Pick up will be at 3:20 on the blacktop.
On Friday, November 18th, Crocker will have a noon dismissal day. We have a special schedule due to the Turkey Trot. If students ordered a LunchMaster lunch, they may grab-n-go in the MPR at 12:00 PM.
Annual Crocker Turkey Trot on November 18th
The annual Turkey Trot honors Mr. Dick Villa, a former Crocker Physical Education teacher. The Turkey Trot is a series of running races that occur the day before the Thanksgiving holiday break. This year we will have races for runners and separate races for students who choose to walk and jog. An alumni race will take place at 10:15 AM, and alumni can sign up HERE to participate. When students are not taking part in the Turkey Trot, they will have a rotation of activities in the gym and the MPR. The day culminates with an awards assembly and raffle in the gym. CPG is generously donating snacks and raffle prizes for the day. Please note on this day that dismissal is 12:00 PM. LunchMaster will provide a grab-n-go lunch for those who signed up, and it can be picked up in the MPR.
DONATE to the Turkey Trot Raffle Drawing!!! Each year, a highlight of the Turkey Trot award ceremony is the raffle drawing. There are multiple winners in each grade level, so we would love to have items donated for prizes. Click HERE to access the Signup Genius to sign up for a prize you would like to donate. Please have your child bring it to the Crocker front office any time between now and Thursday, 11/17. Thank you for your support in making it a fun day for our Vikings!
dues are due!!!

In addition to paying for the school yearbook, parent dues help fund grade level social events, teacher appreciation efforts and more!! CPG Committee members are already busy in the works planning for a great school year. Thanks to those families who have already paid their dues for the 2022-2023 year.

Crocker Toy Drive
Crocker Middle School will host a toy drive for Good Tidings’ Winter Wonderland this holiday season. This year, the toy drive dates will run from November 14th, 2022 to December 9th, 2022. The toy drive Crocker Middle School hosted last year was super successful and made the biggest difference for the Winter Wonderland Toy Giveaway Program.
Just like the previous toy drive, Crocker will have toy collection boxes outside the MPR starting November 14th through December 9th.
This charity is determined to find a way to be able to give away toys to marginalized youth during the holidays!

Lunch Program Volunteers Needed
The LunchMaster program at Crocker has been running smoothly, thanks to dedicated parent volunteers! But, we still need your help! Please come help pass out meals to the kids so they don’t wait in line for longer than necessary before they head out to hang with their buddies. To be included in the signup, please reach out to Donna Wei (ddwei16@gmail.com). We’d love to have you join the Crocker Lunch Team!
*Parent volunteers on campus need to be vaccinated.
LUNCHMASTER REMINDERS
Good news, most of our Crocker students are picking up their lunch orders! For breakfast, however, please check with your students to see if they are actually picking it up each day. Consider discontinuing their order if your students do not want breakfast at school. Breakfast can be picked up from 8:00-8:25 AM. We would really like to reduce food waste. Thank you for your help!

Crocker Vikings Trip to Washington DC
We are very excited to announce that Crocker’s eighth-grade class will go to Washington DC this spring for a five-day trip. The program is through WorldStrides, the same company we used for the National Parks trip last year. This year’s trip is scheduled for Monday, April 24, 2023, to Friday, April 28, 2023. In Washington DC, students will experience US history coming to life by taking daily field trips to visit important monuments, government buildings, and museums. We are holding a parent informational meeting on Monday, November 14th at 6:30 PM, via Zoom. If you are unable to attend, it will be recorded and shared. At that time, we will have information about how you can register your child for this amazing trip. Please see the digital flyer and WorldStrides website which are personalized for Crocker’s trip. Contact Lisa Ayer if you have any questions.

BUILDING BELOWING WEEK - THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
We hope our first-ever Building Belonging Week was engaging, joy-filled and meaningful. Research shows that experiencing belonging is a fundamental human need, key to life satisfaction, happiness, mental and physical health, and even longevity. Through belonging, children develop an understanding of themselves as significant and respected which, in turn, enables them to respect others.
From the classroom, to library, to PE, the week was filled with lessons, books, and activities designed to honor the wonderful diversity in our district, and help students understand their important role in making our schools feel welcoming and inclusive for everyone. Many thanks to our wonderful principals, counselors, librarians, teachers, and the IDEA Committee for your thoughtful partnership in bringing Building Belonging Week to life.
To check out some highlights from the week, head here. If you have feedback, questions or, are interested in joining the IDEA Committee, please reach out to your school representatives.
IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access) is a district-wide, parent-led group that supports the families, faculty, and staff of the Hillsborough City School District (HCSD) to create an environment that welcomes and is informed by diversity, fosters a sense of belonging, and prepares our students to make a positive impact on the world.

HSF HELPS PROVIDE MUSIC FOR ALL :)
Your HSF donations allow Crocker to go beyond the average public middle school with a robust instrumental and vocal music program that offers symphonic and concert band, jazz and wind ensemble, singing groups, and multiple performance opportunities.
Every single dollar you give makes a difference to our schools. Please DONATE TODAY!
Did you know…
OVER 80% OF FAMILIES GIVE
For over 40 years, Hillsborough parents and community members have donated private funds to HCSD to offset the unfortunate reality that California public schools rank 32nd nationally in funding per student.
Crocker relies on these private funds to deliver a higher standard of education ONLY possible with the support of our community.
Fortunately for all of our children, over 80% of district families donate at ACE ($2,900, the additional cost to educate each student) or higher every year.
Please join us and make your donation or pledge to HSF by 12/1.
All funds are used by our school district this school year.
Support HSF & Five Little Monkeys - Give Back Program
Toy Shopping Never Felt so Good! Support HSF and a local business while toy shopping! From now until Tuesday, November 15, use code HSF2022 when shopping at Five Little Monkeys (online or in town) and HSF will receive 15% of the sale proceeds.
The Hillsborough Schools Foundation (HSF) was established to close the financial gap that our district faces every year, with the generosity of HCSD families. Watch this video to learn how HSF directly supports our student’s education and HCSD’s financial needs.
PLEASE JOIN US! MEASURE H PROJECT PRIORITIZATION - YOUR INPUT IS REQUESTED
We also need your help! We invite you to join our Facilities Master Planning Team on November 10th (details below) to give your input on the prioritization of projects by school site. There are two meetings for each school site (duplicate meetings - you only need to attend one of the meetings) and then a meeting that will review all school sites (for those parents / community members who could not attend the earlier meetings). The meetings will be a hybrid format which will allow both in-person and Zoom participation.
Please click HERE or see the information shared below. We welcome your input and participation in this exciting next step in upgrading our school facilities!
