Announcements
Hopefully you remembered to change your clocks on Sunday! I'm excited that it will be staying light later, but Monday morning is going to feel pretty early for all of us, I'm sure!
This Friday (March 17th) is Pajama Day! Students are allowed to wear slippers in the classroom, but will need to have regular shoes to change into when they go outside for recess, lunch, etc.
Science Fair projects are due on March 28th! Students will be presenting them in class, and all projects will be on display during Open House on March 30th.
Academic Updates
Math
We are beginning our unit on Measurement and Volume this week. This week's focus will be on converting measurements using both the metric system and customary units. Please look for opportunities for your child to use and practice these skills at home! For example, if you are cooking and a recipe calls for 2 cups of water, ask your child how many ounces that would be. If something is 8 feet long, ask how many yards or inches that would be.
Language Arts
This week, students will be taking an Interim Assessment. The test will focus on Reading Comprehension (fiction and nonfiction), Language Arts skills and conventions, and word analysis. There will also be a writing component to the assessment for which students will be asked to write an opinion essay. We have been working on developing and improving our opinion writing skills over the past several weeks, so your students should feel prepared!
Science
We are nearing the end of our owl pellet dissection. Many students have started reconstructing their skeletons. Once the skeletons are laid out and glued down, students will label all of the bones. They will then write an informational essay about owl pellets. All owl pellet projects will be on display during Open House on March 30th.
Social Studies
Your students have been researching important people and events of the American Revolution. They are finishing up projects that will be on display during Open House on March 30th.
