The Aviator Compass
Empowering teachers to grow EVERY child every day.
Introduction
Our district vision statement challenges us to "respect, value, inspire, and empower EVERY child to reach their full potential in an ever-changing world". To help build on our collective capabilities to bring that vision to fruition, our district curriculum and instruction team seeks to provide our teachers with information that expands our teaching practices around our district priorities.
Why Mastery-Based Learning?
This video is a MUST WATCH! It provides the "foundational" understanding of why we must embrace the practice of ensuring students truly master our standards before "moving on" with new instruction. When we do this we prevent skill gaps, develop perseverance, help students build their growth mindset, and take agency over their learning.

Literacy Edge
This year Literacy Council is being facilitated in collaboration with the Ohio Writing Project. The council’s focus this year is for members to be able to:
effectively integrate writing in their content area.
create quality writing prompts for common assessments.
identify ways to assess writing as it applies to their content area goals.
use writing to determine student levels of content mastery.
At the council’s fall session, several strategies were introduced and practiced to help effectively integrate writing into content areas and use writing to determine student levels of content mastery. The strategy I see..., I think..., I wonder… was one of the most popular strategies that many teachers took back to their classrooms to try K-12. Here are two sample lessons (with video) for you to view of Literacy Council teachers demonstrating how I see…, I think…, I wonder can be implemented in different ways.
