Our Field Trip to Caper's Island
English Language Arts
This Thursday all AR tests and book projects were due. I have received many projects, but I am surprised of how many were not turned in. They may be turned on Monday with a 10 point penalty. I have informed all of the students of this. I will have a different homework plan for the 4th nine weeks. I will have the information after Spring Break.
This week we met with Mrs. Spivey's kindergarten students. They are our reading buddies!! The kindergarten students brought their favorite book and told our fifth grade students why they picked it. Our fifth grade students showed their reading buddy their choice book. It was a wonderful experience for all students. The pictures above shows fifth grade students with their reading buddies!
This Friday was a wonderful learning experience for our children and and teachers also. Nature is so unpredictable that you never experience the same thing twice! We could have not asked for more beautiful weather. Have a wonderful week!

We had an amazing field trip on Friday to Capers Island on Friday!!!! I was so thankful that the weather was nice and the rain waited another day for us. As we arrived at Capers Island, we immediately loaded up on the boats and took off for Capers Island. Along the way our tour guides talked about the habitats, ecosystems, showed us the shark pit (no we didn’t see any sharks), and characteristics of a barrier island. We saw dolphins along the shores and got to stop and watch them play. We even got to see them eating! The guides pulled up their traps and we got to see different varieties of crabs. The guides came around to eat student and pointed out different parts of the crab. Along the way, the guides also had examples of wildlife found on the island that we didn’t get to encounter up close, such as raccoons, alligators, shells, etc. When we arrived on Capers Island, we got to experience the entire island. We got to walk through the maritime forest and saw live alligators sunning themselves, turtles on the sand, and different types of plants and trees that inhabit the island. Once we got to the beach side, we saw jellyfish, live sand dollars, star fish, and tons of hermit crabs. The students enjoyed over four hours on the island, which concluded with a cookout on the beach of hot dogs and hamburgers. Students were so well behaved and represented Kinard proudly! Golden Corral even complimented us on our manners and welcomed us to come back.
This week we will continue learning about World War II, and now discuss oceanic landforms in Science. We will compare and contrast these landforms with continental landforms, and take a quiz on them later in the week.
