Week of November 25, 2019

Conferences

We are looking forward to seeing many families tomorrow or Tuesday for conferences from 8 am to 3 pm. We are taking a lunch break from 12-1 pm so that all staff can eat lunch together. (Thank you, PTO!) You may show up during the conference window and meet with each of your student’s teachers. Spanish translation will be provided as needed. If you need help with where to go, you can stop in the office first if your student isn’t with you. You are welcome to bring your student with you though. Here are some ideas of key questions you can ask your student’s teachers:

How is my student's behavior in class?

Is my student completing class work?

Is my student completing homework?

What are the strengths and areas for improvement for my student?

Due to conferences the next two days, there is no school for students, and then students and staff are off the rest of the week starting on Wednesday for Thanksgiving break. Have a safe and wonderful break.

Report Cards

We were unable to send home report cards on Friday due to some issues with PowerSchool that the District is trying to fix. The report cards said 2014-2015 and were missing STAR reading scores and teacher scores related to our ELD students’ current abilities and those who have been reclassified (RFEP’d). A few students’ grades were also affected for those who had a schedule change in second trimester, which is why we haven’t finished making schedule changes for those students who have been reclassified as English proficient last week. As soon as all issues are fixed we will send the report cards home with students. I will send out a message the day we send them home so that you can make sure you get your report card from your student.

Honor Roll Breakfast

Students with a 3.75 and higher received an invitation on Friday for the Honor Roll Breakfast, which is on Tuesday, December 3, from 7:15-8:00 am in the gym. The invitation had a link to RSVP. Please RSVP so we know how much food to buy.

GMRT Letter

8th grade students received a letter on Friday with details about high school placement testing. In case your student was absent, the letter is attached below. For more information for incoming high school students, visit the Sequoia Union High School District website. See the picture below that shows you where to go for information on their website regarding incoming students.

For high school, families have to provide proof of residence. Normally you have to bring this information to their District Office. While you can still do this, they are trying to make it more convenient for families, so on Thursday, January 23, 2020, from 5:30-7:00 pm, they will be in the Kennedy library.

8th Grade Baby Pictures

Attention All 8th Graders: Do you have baby pictures that you’d like to submit for the yearbook? Submit them to Ms. Vandermolen in room 314. If you have digital copies of your pictures, you can email them to Ms. Vandermolen at mvandermolen@rcsdk8.net.

School Tours

We will begin school tours for potential incoming Kennedy students in December. Some have asked why we haven’t started sooner like some of the other schools. The directive was to wait until after meet RCSD Night in January, so I was following the directive given. We are now all allowed to start touring. Here are the dates:

Thursday, December 5, 8:30 am, Library

Tuesday, December 17, 8:30 am, Library

Thursday, January 16, 8:30 am, Library

*For families who can’t make any of these dates/times and want more information about the school can contact the office to setup a meeting time with me.
