Village Elementary: Panther Press
Week of November 14, 2021
A Word From Principal Haynes
Greetings Parents,
We have one more week of school until the Thanksgiving Break. There will be no school all of next week. This is a time of reflection of thankfulness especially in light of the challenges of the past year. However, this week are are hard at work with instruction and we have TWO Common Formative Assessments taking place this week: both reading and math. It is extremely important that your child comes to school focused and prepared to do their absolute best on these assessments.
On Friday, consent form for student vaccinations for ages 5-11 were sent home. The Broward County School Board has partnered with Broward Health to make this vaccination available for elementary students at school sites. Students will be receiving the Pfizer shot. The date of the first vaccination is November 17th. The second shot is December 8th. For those desiring to wait, another vaccination date will be set in February. Please complete the consent form completely before sending back. If you wish to be here with your child when they receive the vaccine, you may do so. Please bring a photo ID with you and check in at the front office.
I want to take a moment to wish all of our families a safe, restful, and THANKFUL Thanksgiving break. I am grateful for my Village families and the support each of you have given me and this school over the years. Your babies are my babies and each and every day, I work hard to protect them to return them back to you safe and sound. I am so grateful to play a role in their lives and watch them grow and develop. Despite many things happening in the world around around us, let us be thankful for an opportunity to arise each day, taking nothing for granted. May your families be blessed during this holiday season. Our next school newsletter will go out on November 28th.
Please remember that BCPS has adopted a mask mandate. As such, ALL persons entering campus are expected to be masked. This includes staff, students, parents, and visitors. Students do not wear masks while eating or during outside recess/activities. Please pay close attention to the information in the newsletter and visit our school website for the most up to date information!
Here are some ways you can support learning at home:
- Have your child go on iReady nightly (math one day, reading the next day)
- Have your child READ every night or practice recognizing letters/sight words
- Have your child TALK to you about what they read so you can see if they understand it
- Have your child practice their math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Have your child practice WRITING, both handwriting and writing information
- TALK to them about what they are doing in school
There is a LOT of information in this newsletter, but PLEASE read it thoroughly!!
Wishing you an AMAZING and BLESSED week ahead!!

Thought for the Week
HEADPHONES FOR STUDENTS!!
If you have not purchased headphones for your child, PLEASE do so ASAP. In order for the children to work on iReady and other computer programs, they NEED headphones! You should purchase a good, steady pair that could last all year. Ear buds are not good for using at school, students need the kind that fits over their ears. Place the headphones in the ziploc bag to REMAIN at school so they don't get damaged.
Identification badges
All of our employees and students are required to wear identification badges at all times while on campus. When visitors are on campus, they are also required to wear some form of identification.
Students will get their ID badges after picture day on September 10th. Lost ID badges will be replaced three (3) times at no cost to the parent. After that, a replacement ID badge will cost $3. It will be the parent's responsibility to pay the fee to replace the badge.
Student Uniforms
Village Elementary is a mandatory unified dress code school. It is expected that all students are in uniform, Monday through Friday with the exception of designated school spirit days which will be announced ahead of time. The student dress code guidelines outlined in the Code of Student Conduct will be enforced.
