Oakwood Intermediate PTO
February 2018
A Message from Mr. Symank
I trust that everyone has had a fantastic start to the New Year! We’re happy to have the students back on campus getting settled into their daily routines again. Hopefully, the weather will begin to feel more like Texas weather and we will soon see an end to the flu season. A number of our students and faculty have been impacted by the flu bug this year, and we’re ready for everyone to be healthy.
This Friday, February 2, the CSISD Education Foundation will be hosting their annual fundraising event, 50 Men Who Can Cook. Oakwood has received over 30K through teacher grants from the Education Foundation over the last two years and we’re grateful for their efforts. 50 Men serves as their primary fundraiser throughout the year and tickets are available for purchase in the front office for anyone that may be interested in attending.
With Valentine’s Day only two weeks away I wanted to be sure to point out a couple of things regarding deliveries to school. Flowers, balloons, chocolates, teddy bears, etc. will not be delivered to any student during the school day. Any student that receives something in the front office will be notified at the end of 7th period that they need to pick it up after school. While we certainly appreciate the intended sentiment of the gifts, unfortunately they can be very disruptive when delivered in our classrooms and hallways.
On Friday, February 9, we will have our first spirit challenge of the spring semester with a hat and camo day. Students can participate for free by wearing camo and they can wear their favorite hat for $1. This will be a grade level competition with the winners being awarded a surprise at lunch.
Recently, Oakwood began receiving Title I funds and we will be hosting a meeting on Thursday, February 15 to discuss what this means for our campus beginning at 5:30 in the cafeteria. If you would like to learn more, please make plans to join us.
On Monday, February 19, we will have a student holiday. Please mark your calendars now.
Our spring book fair will begin on Wednesday, February 22 and will run through Friday, March 2.
If you have a 4th grade student that will be entering Oakwood next year, please note that we will have our annual Wildcat Walk on Tuesday, February 27 beginning at 5 PM and ending at 6 PM. This is a come and go event that provides students and their families an opportunity to walk the campus, meet teachers and to learn more about some of our electives. Our orchestra will also be performing to kick off the event and our book fair will be open as well.
We have just completed our 6th grade registration for next year, and will begin the process with our 5th grade students this month. Please look for that information mid-February.
As always, thank you for the opportunity to work with your amazing children.
Spring Book Fair is coming!

With remind & Facebook, parents can receive helpful reminders and interesting news where it is most convenient.
We share even more info for parents through Facebook for the school here and for the PTO here. It is encouraged that parents toggle on "Get Notifications" on the top of our pages. Otherwise, many posts will not be included in your news feed without being boosted with an ad buy. We'd rather spend our money on the kids:)
