Big picture

How Did We Do It?

How did we successfully transition 80 staff members, 720 students, and 1440 parents? We did it together. As we wrap up school this week, I am grateful for your help in starting Cherry Park Elementary School of Language Immersion. 1. Parents and Volunteers--You organized our School Improvement Council and Parent Teacher Organization. You cooked and baked and bought and sent those items to school to encourage teachers. You chaperoned field trips and field days. You mentored and monitored and coordinated and supported and helped. And, you smiled and laughed and offered advice and input. We are ending well because of you. 2. Staff Members--You did the impossible. You packed up, unpacked, organized and reorganized. You spent long hours getting ready. You helped figure out Step 1 and 2 and 3 and on. You cared for each other and shared with each other. You questioned and helped find good answers. You were positive and supportive when days were long. You put kids first and yourself last. You sacrificed time and effort and energy. You kept the main things the main things: teaching and learning. You are my heroes. 3. Our District Staff--Dr. Cook, Dr. Kokolis, Dr. Jones, and Mr. Cox, you modeled servant leadership and always asked, "How can we help?" and you meant it. Dr. Brakefield, Dr. Campbell, Mrs. Smith, Dr. Turner, Mr. James, Dr. Holmes, Mr. Frost and Mr. Jones, you checked on us and made sure we had what we needed to support our children and teachers (and me.) Mrs. Greenwood and Mr. Newton, Mrs. Hyatt and Mrs. Owens, Mrs. Kelsy and Mrs. Lowdermilk, thank you for your kindness and support and understanding. Mr. Vaughn, Mr. Robinson, Mrs. Faris, Mr. Cox, Mr. Wiles, Mr. Wilhide and all our Facilities Services staff, you told me "Yes" as often as you could and "No" only when necessary. Few people really understand what it takes to manage a construction project this size. You guys made a beautiful school out of an old track. 4. Our Rock Hill Community--You decided to vote "Yes" years ago to a bond referendum that financed our new school. Cherry Park Elementary exists because you had the wisdom and courage to invest in our children. We do not take that for granted. To each of you, you truly embody what "One Team, One Mission, One Rock Hill" means. We could not have done it without you.

So Grateful,

Mr. Maness, Principal

Online Registration for Students

Rock Hill Schools will open online registration for new students and 5-year-old Kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year on Monday, May 6. Registration/re-enrollment for current students will open on Monday, June 24. Applications are currently being accepted for the district's 4-Year-Old Kindergarten program by visiting Central Child Development Center.

The convenient, online process will allow parents to update information from the comfort of their home before attending orientation sessions at their child’s school. The district is pleased to offer this service to its families as a way to speed up the registration process.

By completing the registration in advance, parents and guardians will be able to quickly move through the orientation and course/class schedule pickup dates to be held later at each school.

As the registration date draws closer, parents of current students will receive an e-mail with additional instructions to guide them through the online registration process. Parents and guardians will be able you to provide up-to-date information related to emergency contacts, phone numbers and e-mail addresses, transportation preferences, and more.

We invite families in need of assistance, whether it is questions or access to Internet, to visit any of our schools after online registration opens. Computer access is also available at the York County Library, and many areas in our community offer free WiFi that would allow you to access the Internet to complete the online registration.
