Dear CHA Families,
We will be starting state mandated Hearing and Vision screenings. Cook Children’s Medical Center Eye Clinic will be at Chapel Hill Academy on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 and Thursday October 5, 2023 to vision screen. Any new students at CHA and those scholars in kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th grades should bring their glasses with them on these screening dates. Please be sure glasses are clean.
If all students are not able to be screened on this day, we will have an additional date for screening. Hearing screenings will take place with our nurse on Fridays beginning October 13th. Please make sure ears have been cleaned and cleared of wax buildup.
Our goal is to get the best possible and most accurate screening. If your scholar does not pass the first screening, a second screening will be conducted approximately two weeks following the initial screening. Any significant findings on your scholar's screening results will be sent home shortly afterward with a referral to a specialist.
Our nurse will also be conducting state mandated Acanthosis screenings for 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th graders. This screening entails a look at the back of the neck to check for any pigmentation or skin changes that may be indicative of pre-diabetes.
Should these be present, additional data such as height, weight, BMI and blood pressure will be checked. Any significant findings will also be sent home shortly afterward with a referral to your doctor for further assessment.
Returning CHA Kinder and 7th grade parents, students missing immunizations required for continued enrollment were notified before the end of last school year. Remember to provide us with updated records so your child’s return to CHA is not delayed. Students not in compliance with state immunization requirements will not be allowed to start school until vaccines are up to date. Please use the following link to view the requirements.
The Opportunity for Success Program focuses on building youth social skills, decision making, self-esteem, and parenting skills to assist families in decreasing negative behaviors at home, in the school, and in the community using short-term, family-focused services. Through separate structured classes, both you and your child participate in 90-minute classes on a weekly basis for seven weeks. Three home visits and/or school visits by program staff are required to participate in the program. Currently visits are conducted over the phone during COVID. There is no charge to you. | Lena Pope’s Wraparound Program was created to involve the whole family in creating stronger family relationships and to reduce unwanted behaviors like truancy, risk-taking, or substance use. Our team takes a broad view to see the needs of every family and then creates an individual plan to help families reach their goals. We want youth to have positive relationships with their family and community, to feel supported, and to have the skills needed to handle difficult situations they will encounter in life. Services are offered in-home at no cost to the family. | Hello Parents, The SchoolStore fundraiser is 100% online so there is NO face-to-face selling, handling money, or delivering products. Your participation will take less than 12 minutes, and there are exciting prizes to make it fun for the students. Here is all you need to do to participate: 1. Go to https://www.schoolstore.net/sid.t?0000368756 to sign up. 2. Send form emails inviting family, friends and co-workers to support your child. 3. Return the Envelope with the Student Prize Code to school for your child to get their fun participation prize. Be sure to ask your child for the Parent Envelope tonight. Your participation will make a difference for our school and teachers! Thanks, Chapel Hill Academy |
