Harmoniously blending the work of redemption and education

Dear BCCA Families

Sherry and I just got back from Teachers’ Meetings at Camp Alamisco. They were quite a blessing! One aspect I enjoyed was the preaching from Elder Brian. He had an analogy for how we present the Gospel that was fantastic. The analogy was baking a cake. You need the right ingredients and the right proportions. If you have all the right ingredients, but mix in two cups of salt instead of flour, your cake will taste terrible.

Even though we have all the right ingredients of the Bible/Gospel, but we need to be sure they are in the right proportions. The biggest portion of the Gospel should be Jesus. It’s not anything else. All the other ingredients should be given in a much smaller portion. At Big Cove, Jesus is the main focus. We have other ingredients like Math, Science, etc. However, Jesus is the focal point of our entire day. As a church/school family, we must be sure that no other ingredient gets close to Jesus in size as we talk about the Gospel. What he did for us by fulfilling the Law and dying for our sins is something that can never be overstated. It is everyone’s job to present it in new ways and keep it interesting for the children.

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, 1 Peter 3:18

Career Sharing & Developoment

BCCA is looking for professionals to come in and talk to students about their careers. The older students are at a time where they are seriously considering career paths, and now would be a great time to come and share different aspects of various careers. Also, the students are interested in how the school helps them later in life so having professionals talk about careers and school would be very beneficial for them. The ideal time is on Fridays, but any time is welcome. Please contact Lucas to schedule a time to come in and talk about your job.

Iowa Test of Basic Skills (Oct 7-11)

Please ensure that your children get a good breakfast and the proper sleep during this week. Most of all say a prayer before they head out the door!

Parent Teacher Conference (Oct 17)

Please sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences. This is a vital part of teaming up with your child and your child's teacher to ensure they are progressing academically, mentally, and spiritually. Sign-up Sheets will be on the bulletin board in the entryway. Classes will dismiss at noon.

Taking learning outdoors (School Garden)

Welcome to Garden Class! This month we learned about planting plants in planters. We populated the planter that surrounds the Big Cove Christian Academy school sign with flowers with a mixture of cruciferous plants. This combination will give us food and color in a very small place. You don’t always need to have a traditional garden space in order to grow food and to make something aesthetically pleasing. The students will also get to notice the difference of a north facing planter versus a south facing planter and which one will be more successful over the fall and winter months.

Let's welcome the newest member to the BCCA family, Andrew Nelson. Youcelyne Nelson, the mother of one of our students (Nayla), delivered a healthy baby boy on Friday Sep 6.

Praise and thankfulness to God — Let's continue to keep this family in prayer.
